I was in the forces like you lads, but I guess the difference is I was in when they were needing not just feeding them. None of you are a good advert for time spent in the military.

I know a couple of guys who left the RAF after a similar length of time. Before they came out one trained as a driving instructor and the other did a painting and decorating course.

Having served 25 years in the RN i am now retired. In my honest opinion i would stay in the RAF while you can as there is nothing left in this country and getting worst under the tory toffs, stay in and build your pension up is my advice as you will need every penny if you want a decent living. 16 years wont give you a decent pension in today's standards so spend another 7 years saving like mad and take that time to plan your future....there is nothing out here mate...

With all respect I don't know you, but you come across as somebody who assumes that this country owes you a living for serving the Queen. You say there's nothing but there's plenty of success stories in this country, there's plenty of opportunity for hard working people to make a success career-wise. People refusing to move out of their comfort zone is not an excuse (I'm not saying you won't before you attack me for that), there's so many people who are just unwilling to take a risk, or a leap of faith to achieve a goal.

There's a guy on here, Smug, like him or loathe him but he used the hands he was born with to make a decent living for himself, with all respect to the fella he was a doorman for the most part then ended up with enough desire to want more and go out and ****ing earn it, if you have that mindset, then no ****er Tory or otherwise would keep you down.

Always promised myself I'd leave when I stopped enjoying it, money or not. Unfortunately, that time has come. I'm not being miserable for another 6 years for money

Can't argue with that mentality, I spent many years of my life bouncing from one thing to another to get the balance between money & happiness, and I got there.

I really dunno what to advise to an ex military man, a very good friend of mine does the boats off Africa, effectively 'pirate watch' and he does 3 month on month off, gets great pay, and gets plenty time at home.

He was Army for 11 years and I think this ticks the boxes for him, he's very, very happy in his life now.

Cheers terry, again any info you could give me on the fraud sector would be much appreciated. A lot of my work in the Raf was analytical, giving briefings etc with some undercover work involved
