A year after the death of 1133 textile workers after the collapse of a factory building in Bangladesh, today is Fashion Revolution Day. All over the world people are encouraged to wear their clothes inside out to raise awareness of the appalling conditions in the clothing industry and the fact that many high street brands continue to buy product at dumping prices from dangerously overcrowded Far East sweatshops. http://fashionrevolution.org/ So come on people, get those labels showing. A very busy (overly busy?) racing programme today from Beverley, Brighton, Newcastle and Warwick on the flat, Perth over the jumps and a lovely mixed meeting at Tipperary.
Yes, all too true. Read something recently about the '100-hour week' put in by foreign domestic workers in Qatar. One would hope Blatter and his cronies will have read this too; not that it makes a scrap of difference. http://www.dw.de/amnesty-migrant-domestic-workers-face-widespread-abuse-in-qatar/a-17584057 Good luck today with your wagers everyone!
Well I'm currently enjoying a city break in Berlin. I fancy 3 from Mark Johnson today, heavy metal, muteela and kosika.
Wear your clothes inside out? How is that going to help workers in developing countries? I think we should go further. Naked thursday!!! Lots of racing today, good luck to anyone playing.
Morning all I think Mr Hannon could well have a double at Warwick today with Touzr and Potentate which is around the 7/1 mark but I do like the look of Head Space in the 6.15 at Newcastle tonight. There is a bias for those drawn high so being drawn 10 of 11 is a good start. Plus today he is running in a class 4 handicap in which the last 4 races in this company reads 1123. Also runs well when the ground is G/F which it is today. Lastly I do believe that the trainer is in good form (Mrs R Carr). Taken all these factors into account so at 14/1 worthy of a nice e/w bet.
All about raising awareness Nass - that buying T-Shirts from Top Man for a quid is directly contributing to this problem. Rome wasn't built in a day
Well, don't buy things. Wearing clothes inside out, makes you look stupid, shows the makers label and more of all does nothing for the workers. Instead of buying a shirt, donate that money to the Red Cross or something of that ilk.
But that wouldn't raise awareness would it? I've had a number of people stop me and ask and they now have more awareness of the issue and might just think twice about what they purchase next time. I look stupid anyway so this small gesture is hardly making things worse
Bobowen @ 18/1 4.20 Perth Given time to recover by The Good Dr Newland, having ran in Class 1 races on last 4 runs of 2013, Bobowen is down both in grade and weights here, -4lbs since Galway Plate outing 3 races ago. This Barn is in excellent form 43% (6/14) strike rate during April and a 50% (1/2) strike rate at Perth over the past 5 years. Jockey Tom O'Brien's only mount of the day, 32% (11/34) strike rate at Perth, also 32% (20/62) strike rate when teaming up with the Good Dr over the past 5 years. The stats are in his favour, 18/1 (Bet Victor) looks generous! Good Luck!
Perth 250 momkinzain should place easy and has a very good chance of winning 5s in places slight ew edge
Interesting to see the AOB juvenile today over in Ireland, that is bred to be very smart and did cost a kings ransom
Lots of testosterone flying around in Ukraine at the moment ................. someone give them a chill pill FFS Cyc - hopefully Ecclestone will get a custodial sentence. Any form of financial punishment will be like telling him to "behave in future and run along now"
Off to Newcastle tonight. Looked at the 18.15 for a while last night and have backed both ORBIT THE MOON (currently 9/1) and ENDERBY SPIRIT (25/1). These are the little notes I made on the race last night. Enderby Spirit is starting to look incredibly well handicapped. Hasn't won for a while but was unlucky in running when last seen on the track suggesting he retains plenty of his old ability Orbit The Moon is now 9lbs better off with Trade Secret (3rd behind that horse at Thirsk lto beaten 4 1/2 lengths) was poorly drawn that day and Trade Secret had the fitness edge at Thirsk. Connor Beasley takes a further 5lbs off Orbit The Moon so could argue he is a stone better off at the weights. King Of Eden seems to like it at Newcastle but is a bit short in the betting at 4/1 Time And Place & Star Up In The Sky look the horses open to further improvement. Time And Place may need the run & Star Of The Sky has done majority of her winning on the all weather.
And speaking of the Ukraine troubles. One of their favourite sons Wladimir Klitchko put all his belts on the line this weekend in Germany against the mighty Alex Leapai. Our Alex is given no chance, but we live in hope.
Make on Madam is the first horse to go into my newly openend tracker, was drawn stall 1 at Beverley but missed the start. Flew home in the final furlong and looks one to be on in a lowly maiden next time out
Fu ck the form out the window , did take big society on ew earlier on the strength of the form . We will see!
