I wish he'd dug his heels in when Ashley started undermining him.

He's right of course. However I'd want a bit more backbone from my manager than KK. He did quit the moment he didn't get his own way or funds weren't available. Some of the best traits of good management are when structures are not as you'd like and you have to make the best of what is available. Its one of the things that worries me about Laudrup. I don't think he'd last 5mins with Ashley before the toys were out the pram.

If he was guaranteed a mountain of cash. Otherwise it would be a waste of time as he'd quit within months.

Its said time after time, Managers should never go back and try to replicate what they once had.
KK shouldn't have come back here, but that's hindsight for you.

Nothing wrong with what he says, he's a 'football romantic at heart', but those type of thoughts don't sit well in Ashleys Kingdom unfortunately.

He wouldn't come back and work under ashley. And I don't blame him for that choice. KK wanted the focus on developing the team. When he saw what Ashleys plan was back then, to go for profit, he knew that he didn't have a chance of competing.
KK might return in some upstairs capacity after this lot sell up.

I think we have all wanted that for a while! To be fair I would never go back to KK, huge error for me. We need someone younger who will build something for the long term.

Thing with KK is that second time around he had us playing great, attacking football with leeches such as Owen & Viduka. Has to be said his decision to drop Owen to a much deeper role pretty much re-invented Owen as a player.

We were slow out of the blocks under KK (don't think we won in his first 6 or 7 games) but with a very poor squad he had us playing some decent stuff. I don't blame him from walking away the second time as much as the first. He walked away the first time because he believed (wrongly IMO) that he wasn't good enough to win us the league and that he'd failed us.

Second time around we sold Milner and didn't replace and I think from the moment Xisco & Gonzalez were signed KK knew it just wasn't how a club should be run. He was basically sold a lie by Mike so had no option but to walk. It's like becoming a manager at a restaurant and being promised a brand new head chef and kitchen staff only to then actually lose your head chef and not have him replaced but still be expected to serve the same quality of dishes.

Certain managers are made for clubs. You can't explain it but they simply belong there and they have an affinity with the fans that just breeds excitement and positivity. KK is that manager for us. I would take him back under a different owner where he can inject his own ideas and get any player he wants to live a dream. He shouldn't have come back under Ashley. But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

KK will never be in it for the long term. Maybe a less stressful DOF role in the future would be a good idea if we had the finance.

I think that would be the only reservation fans would have. I'd take him as DOF. He has a lot of pull all over Europe even now.

Can see that working well. He'd still be admired by a lot of clubs and players and would at least inspire a positive influence on the club.

Best idea I've seen on here, that. 100% never going to happen with Mike in control, of course.

OK... blue sky thinking here but if Freddie took control again.... and brough KK back but with tighter financial constraints would this float your boat?
As long as we were financially solid I'd be up for it.
As a fan I don't ask for titles or trophies (of course they would be nice).... all I ask for is the team and the manager to try (whatever their ability) and hopefully for half decent football to be played. I also wanna go to the game thinking 'you never know we may get a result today'.... instead of 'how many will we ship today'...
Right now we get neither effort nor the end product which worries me...... especially as it doesn't take lots of money to deliver what I and most fans want.

a DofF role would suit him and the club IMHO.
