I was going to write something similar to this - originally Man Utd were special for one reason; no player was bigger than the club or the manager - if you didn't fit in or toe the line you were gone! Now, with rumours of that favourite "he'd lost the dressing room" and the decision to sack not back, they have succumbed to player power the way the rest of the league has. Be interesting to see where they go from here, if they are in the same boat as everyone else with sulky players able to call the shots then it may be a long time before they get back near the top; especially if they can't attract the players needed (probably 10 or so thanks to the squad SAF left behind) to really make them a force...
GBS has a point. Moyes never seemed to have the arrogance of bloody-mindedness of other 'big club' managers. Be it on the touchline or in front of the cameras. He said some very odd things, about being fearful, aspiring to be Manchester City etc. etc. His overall demeanour always struck me as someone not quite comfortable with their scenario and I guess that can radiate pretty quickly...?
He will go on to manage a small provincial club in the 2nd tier, take them up and on to be champions of Europe. In 20yrs they will make a film dramatising his brief spell at united.
Some people embark on a series of inappropriate and damaging relationships before realizing that there was only ever one true love for them, and now it's over. At that point they may learn to be content with memories.
He/she seems to sporadically give us all negative rep over innocuous comments, presumably that the perpetrator disagrees with. Getting back to Moyes, character wise he is a very nice bloke. With regards to the job, should he have been sacked, I don't think anyone can judge in 10 months. All these supposed 'fans' complaing that they should be winning trophies or at least finishing in the top four, well I look at their squad and they only have 3/4 players that other top teams would want, the rest are aging or average. Our fulbacks and midfield are arguably much better than theirs! People complain about Moyes' transfers but aside from Fellaini (like Veron and Forlan) we have little proof. It's the Glazier's that have removed the funding from the club and unless they can get in at least five quality players they will struggle. I cannot see any players wanting to join that turmoil currently and it will make transfer business harder this summer. I am sure they will improve next year but I think that this is unsurprising as they have to overhaul their squad. Finally I think that this is going to be a growing trend as there are now five or six sides that will be vying for four spots and three trophies and most of the fans of these clubs seem to think it is their god-given-right to win something every year and happily this will become more challenging. In reality the players have not performed this season for Man U and they should take a lot of the blame but will be overlooked.
Ps. I am assuming the next boss at Man U is a four way race between Sherwood, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Rene Meulensteen and Roy Keane.
Combination of things went against him I feel. I've been saying that whoever replaced Ferguson would be doomed for the last 3/4 years as it is impossible to live up to the legacy that he left behind. A squad that over performed last year imo, helped by other clubs lacking any form of consistancy and a dismal summer window (Which probably wasn't Moyes' fault). On MNF last night Neville was saying that he hoped the rumours weren't true as he hoped Utd weren't a sacking club and would give him time to turn it around. Carragher said that was how he perceived Liverpool aswell, but sometimes you just have to admit you got it wrong with an appointment, like Liverpool did with Hodgson and move on. If the rumours about this massive pot of cash Utd have to spend this summer are true, do you let a manager who has done extremely poorly this season, with no real indication that he could turn it around, have some say on how to spend it? Or do you bring in someone else and let them orchestrate the signings? It is a tough call but I think Utd were right to sack him now (even more so if the transfer budget is true). The next appointment is absolutely crucial for them though.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27109742 Is this guy writing an English essay, or reporting the sacking of a football manager? Stop over doing it BBC.
Well, we have devoted an entire thread to a manager sacked from another club, so let's let’s not be the pot calling the kettle black. Personally, I would have had a little chat about it in the Premier League thread, but there you go.
Is it..? As long as it doesn't involve a managerial roundabout happening where MP goes elsewhere, I couldn't really give a toss.
The problem is that I enjoy discussing topics that involve football teams other than Southampton, even though I am an avid fan; I suspect I am not the only one. I enjoyed it on the BBC site when you could have cross threads as that led to more interaction. Without that and being unable to comment on other teams and topics other than Saints, I think this board would become very inane and one dimensional, so I hope that people won't become overzealous about it .
You can cross forums and talk to other fans as much as you like, You are not restricted to here. Tbf to you, occasionally I can summon up the enthusiasm to talk about other teams, but usually that is restricted to South Coast teams like Bournemouth, etc.., simply because I want all southern teams to do well.
The problem is too much tumbleweed on some forums thus we have a better discussion on here than on many boards !
You are stuck with me...Saintsweb won't have me as I haven't got an acceptable e-mail address and I rarely go on the Echo site because I have to count to ten between every letter typed because it is like walking through mud (keeps you succinct).
*Whispers* even though he's never won anything, I think MP would do a good job at MUFC. A progressive young manager could be the right call for them, but then again, they'll never do it......
