Garry Monk - time to nail your colours to the mast

Discussion in 'Swansea City' started by aswan_dam, Apr 20, 2014.

Garry Monk - hire or fire?

  1. I don't want him as manager after the end of this season

  2. I'm prepared to give him 12 games next season and see what happens

  3. I'd like to see him get the job permanently

Dragon, any truth to the rumour doing the rounds that Jenkins wants to cash in on Bony by selling him to a Donkey Sanctuary? Sparkey would know,I expect. Where is the blighter when we need him?

Their relationship would appear to have some depth. Good luck to them.

Rodgers didnt fancy Shelvey either and I am quite happy he didnt. Had a great season. Borini would fit in well here. Is good enough for the PL but will neverbe a prolific goalscorer. I wouldnt be disappointed to see him here.

Maybe Sinclair is being lined up by Fulham or perhaps Palace if they're going to be based in London. QPR could be a likely bet as well, or even West Ham.

Garry Monk's Premier League record to date:

Played 11, won 3, drawn 3, lost 5 = 12 points. Expand that to a full season and it would be 41 points. His 11 games includes a representative cross-section of PL teams including Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal & Chelsea so it can't be said he's had a run of "easier" games (sorry Vetch!).

Ok, it's not on a par with Rodgers' 47 points or Laudrup's 46 points, but not far off and the more games he's in charge of the better he will get (probably). Time to cut the guy some slack and give him a shot next season (IMO).

TLF: "Borini would fit in well here. Is good enough for the PL but will never be a prolific goalscorer. I wouldnt be disappointed to see him here. "

Firstly he's a striker. His job is to score goals. If he's not prolific at this level then fine, there are plenty like him but you shouldn't have to pay through the nose for someone like that. Fact is we'd probably be paying a very large transfer fee & huge wages for someone who won't be prolific. By that I mean a 15-20 goals a season. I don't see Borini doing that right now.

    Don't think so.

Dragon we have had a lot worse since we have been in the PL. I think it would depend on what you have to pay for him. Take Bony this year and Michu last year none of the other strikers have given us much. I am not saying we should sign him but at the right price i wouldnt be disappointed. Maybe Liverpool would be happy to loan him out again.

Read my original post properly first, then you might not protest over him so much, he has to be better than Lita and Aloevera who will be shipped out at the end of the season!.............<ok>

Borini suits our system, and hasn't really clicked at Liverpool and is now surplus to requirements, great little player!..............<ok>

Would love us to be reunited with Borini again - and have been impressed with Emnes in the little game time he has had. Lita and Vasquez should be put on the first bus out of Swansea, but unsure about Ngog; what was that all about? Could've just bought a couple of cushions if we wanted to warm the bench!

Big spring clean required; Canas was initially promising but ultimately poor - Pozuelo looked good off the bench but crap when he started - Chico I have a soft spot for but can we afford his penchant for cards? Vorm was magnificent in his first season but has been found wanting for much of this one - Amat, not sure - solid at times but was found out by Tiote. Bartley? Tiendalli - looked okay at times and crap at others!

Monk? To be honest he has got the team playing with passion but can he attract the players we will need next season? This is the hardest one for me - if he was a stick of rock would have SCFC written right through him, but can we afford the sentimentality of sticking with him as manager? Would love to say yes, but think it may be a bit to soon for him - can totally see him as a future manager, and believe he would stay with us for a long time, but is he right for us now? Would love him to prove us wrong and build a team around Wilf (assuming we can keep him) that would establish us as a sustainable premier league team.

A lot of questions there but, seeing that we are 6 points off relegation, is nice to pose them. We could be safe already - IMO one more point will make it a certainty - but why aim low, there is no reason why we shouldn't win all of our last 3 games; that 'could' take us up to tenth and, given a season where we have seriously under performed, how good would that be? TBH would be happy with 17th! ;)

He needs to earn the right. At present he isn't good enough to start a game or play in his position. Maybe he isn't putting the worki in behind the scenes either. As it stands, he isn't better than Jonjo, JDG, Pablo or Michu in the number 10 position.

<laugh> I'm not protesting. I'm just giving my opinion and I did read your post properly. If Borini came here I'd back him 100%. As you're talking about comparing him to Lita and Vasquez then yes that's a no brainer. I just think that he's not the one to replace them. He's yet to prove himself at this level despite having ample opportunity. I've no problem with that at all but I do when his price tag and wages are likely to be very high.

Average in Italy, next to useless at Liverpool where I admit he was played out of position, and he's hardly worked wonders for the Mackems apart from the odd goal. So not for me UNLESS it's at a knock down price.

I do feel that rose tinted glasses are worn when many Swans fans talk about Borini, for perfectly understandable reasons.

Not difficult to understand my point really even you disagree. <ok>

When you consider the mess we were in with players playing out of position and not very happy with laudrup that they were forced to go to the chairman to complain, and the fans were complaining about the type of football we were playing that was so dire it was sending us down, and the atmosphere was the worst it has ever been that fans were leaving the ground early then i agree with Jenkins and the board and any sensible writer and fellow managers who have nothing but praise for the way monk has turned the club around having no experience as a manager but has an abundance experience about what swansea is all about. Credit to him for taking on the challenge knowing the big games we had coming our way and getting the team whoever he played to play with passion again, i cant fault him on his attitude or commitment for someone who has not managed before and like martinez and rodgers and others have said that monk has been fantastic and will make a good manager for us and he deserves his chance for stepping into the unknown and sorting everything that has been lost under laudrup back to some sort of normality again that we are starting to look a good top half team that laudrup failed to maintain. The job is his for next season and he deserves his chance, He has earned it..

I'd love it if we got Borini back. Can play in multiple attacking positions and closes the opposition down well.

Borini is a good player and would fit in with us well. He was playing well for liverpool but was down the pecking order a bit. I dont take any notice of fans who say he was not good enough for brendan and take the view he was one of many that liverpool had to choose from and wanted to play more regular than what brendan could offer him...

Borini's favoured position is spearheading the attack and with a player like Suarez in the squad he was never going to play there. Whether Bony goes or not I think Huw Jenkins should fork some money out for a cheeky bid.

So it looks like the conclusion of this pole is ship out Monk (the chump) at the first opportunity!

So much for swans fans happy with monk at the helm, that's 3 polls taken and all 3 resoundingly in favour of replacing him.
