We turned down a similar size bid for Modric from Chelsea, only to have Madrid come in the next season and tap him up really blatantly, then do the same the following season to Bale. Let's see if your owners manage to resist their dubious attentions in the next window, especially when Henry's admitted that he broke Suarez' contract over the Arsenal bid. Staving off the attention of other clubs in England isn't the problem. Having a massive chunk of the media disrupt your squad is.
Suarez did all he could to leave last summer, yes player power has a big big part to play and Suarez may very well end up going should Madrid and the press go overboard again, however he's shown that he isn't the type to sulk, he's having his best season of football he's ever had and thats after being forced to train with the reserves in pre-season (even signing a new contract a couple of months after). The difference, and the point I was trying to make is, we are not (or at least should not be) a 'selling' club, Suarez is worth far far more to us than cash in the bank. If HAIG is right, and he's the difference between us being in a champions league place (not least challenging for the title) it would make zero financial sence to sell him at any price given that it could amount to £20mill+ difference in revenue every season. As your manager said, for all the money you rinsed Madrid out for Bale, it wasn't worth it when that players contribution amounts to the difference between being champions league contenders and 6th place. Even forcing him to play out his contract and leave for nothing (given that he gives his all regardless) could be worth more than £60-£80million pounds that he may fetch. Im not saying he won't end up leaving, but I would be surprised (It would have been a given, had we not qualified for the champions league)
Sewerez. Cheaterpool. Diverpool. Cesspool. Goofy. Klanfield. Reminds me of the intellectual capacity of the participants in the conversations I hear when I take my 5 year old to school........
The nice thing is that if Suarez leaves I trust Rodgers to bring the best out of whoever we bring in. Look at what he's doing with Coutinho and Sterling. We could have four 'world class' players within two seasons if they keep developing, not counting Sakho, who has a lot of potential.
Stop eavesdropping on school kids. I still can't believe that he got away with that foul at the end of the Norwich game. It was a total slip and he didn't mean it, but what was the ref looking at?!
"Blimey, looks like HIAG has a fresh catch. I thought most of the little mouser fishies had learnt to avoid his hook" The dangers of drift-netting with small-grain mesh nets. The rest are like the drunken fools who get chucked out of a place, and then spend the rest of the night trying to get back in.
Oh I know... completely took Snodgrass out! He could finally replace Hyypia for us. Makes his mistakes because he tries to play positively all the time. Still doing well for his first season in the PL - especially coming from a team so dominant in such a slow league.
Liverpol havent got achance in the CL. There is no way they csn keep suarez. Bkah blah blah. you boys havr to stop judging us by your standards.
Well I'm not judging your typing by my standards. Are you pissed or something? Is Liverpol the Scouse Interpol? A Merseyside organisation for cooperation between crooks, perhaps?
"you boys havr to stop judging us by your standards" Our standards are very low in the PL. For 4 seasons the Poool have been so poor in the PL, they couldn't meet even those standards.
Either of them would do a great job at Old Trafford, but Sherwood would be my choice as long as he takes Kyle Naughton along to be Evra's long-term replacement.
But while your club won more money we won a cup, they're the silver things that make football what it is.
"But while your club won more money" While our club had FAR LESS ANNUAL REVENUES + (add the previous highly amusing fact I stated) ...
The guys on this board will tell you that I was adamant that Bale wouldn't leave, even as the Real tapping-up machine moved into overdrive. But I was wrong. In the end, a mixture of (a) top dollar, and (b) Bale's own desire to move on, forced Levy's hand. Make no mistake, that Real will do everything they can to unsettle Goofy and encourage him to force a move. The key to everything is going to be Goofy's own frame of mind. If he feels that he's unlikely to get another chance to make a dream move to Real, there is absolutely no way 'Pool will hold on to him. And without him, you won't stand a chance in either the league or the CL, especially with it now looking incredibly likely that United is going to be spending big money to mop up any of the players that £ity, Chavs, Arsenal, us, PSG, Bayern, Barca, and others do not buy, first.
And why despite our finishing 4 years below Spurs it never affected our comparative financial standings and we got a cup into the bargain. #winwin
Actually, the unsettling is key to their strategy (which is what makes them utter c**ts) . Given that even quite a nice / level-headed kid like Bale caved in and turned to the dark side, looking at Goofy last summer you fear for the Poool.
"And why despite our finishing 4 years below Spurs it never affected our comparative financial standings" 1. So what you are saying is that where you finish in the PL wrt to a "small club" like Spurs is irrelevant, because your "comparative financial standings" were unaffected ?? "and we got a cup into the bargain" 2. We got one finishing miles below you in the PL, and with far less revenues. 1. We have a name for clubs like that : Arsenal. 2. The mighty Poool slide into small club mediocrity laid bare.
