In all seriousness signing Ellington will be a retrograde step by PJ. Is he realy the answer to our striking problems when we have Scotland who is a very similar player! We lampooned Keane for signing his retreads and I just hope that PJ is not going down the same road. PJ has made 2 brilliant signings so far and I hope that he doesn't blot his copy book by signing someone who did a good job for him over 5 years ago! Come on PJ lets have some good quality players who are young and hungry and not journeymen that used to play for you!

To be fair too Jewell we have only been linked with him.

Apparently we were about to sign Roberts...but that turned out to be Newspaper BS.

Ellington has been released and according to PJ we have made a bid for another striker, so he is unlikely to be the player referred to. Having said that we could also be looking at him in addition, but don't see that he would be any better than Scotland.

    no no no no no.
    PLEASE NO.

I live in Bristol, even when he was a Bristol Rovers striker and doing well he had days with zero interest. By that I mean Scotland in comparison energetic....

Then theres the Watford experience. Their fans were literally DELIGHTED to get rid of the fat overpaid waste of talent. £3.25 million + a rumoured £20,000 a week wages.... Ellington hit a crazy 5 goals in 51 appearances for the hornets. During that spell, he obviously scored against us, as Watford always beat us...!

Now much malligned injury prone and slated Sam Parkin hit 5 in 22 appearances for us ........

Ellington tried a load spell at Derby, and hit a very impressive 3 in 27 appearances. Thats a goal every NINE games...........

Seriously, what are we trying to achieve here? I've met him, he's arrogant as you like. He's a money man. If we offer him a 2 year contract I will be seriously annoyed.

The only bright link I can think - is Jewell MAY be able to get the best out of him. I really cannot see why he's worth the hassle and effort myself. Perhaps if its a 1 year deal on a base rate of £5000 with big bonuses per goals, yeah fine. Otherwise I for one am not interested. I really do NOT want this clown at us.

A potentially backward step smacking of the RK era and old pals club. All has been looking pretty bright up to now, let's not bugger it up by signing this guy.

Please no, for all the reasons stated by Westlake. I'd rather go for Earnshaw. Ignore the budgie connections, he knows where the back of the net is.

I think whoever we sign will probably be on the bench for the most part in support of Wickham/Chopper so if PJ thinks the Duke can do a job in a supporting role then i'll go along with it.

If Ellington can be remotely interested, a year deal, with the bonuses, and he's fit fine.

The chances of this to me are around 5%

I can't see why a club like Charlton etc aren't being linked with him

Would rather have Rory Fallon back, at least he could hold the ball up for Chopra.

Can i just say, can we please give any new signings the benefit of the doubt, instead of getting on their backs right from the start! Some players just seem to click at certain clubs. This is a no lose signing as far as i'm concerned, no fee is involved just wages. I'm sure he will have a strict medical so lets just give him a welcome reception and not pre-judge him.

Agree entirely Guru. He's done the job for PJ in the past at Wigan and is still well thought of by the pie eaters (nickname for Wiganers)!

Sometimes the negativity of some of our contributors can get a little bit wearing! :emoticon-0108-speec

Wise words Guru! Welcome Senor Ellington. I concur that he'll probably be looking at coming off the bench. Scotland will probably be shown the door. Rocky & Connor with Priskin, Ellington & Murray backup. I guess we're pretty much there with our front line. Would have liked Maynard but you can't have it all :)

Keeper, left-back, centre-back and central midfield... first three signings then a biggie Prem player loan methinks!!!
