We went up last season automatically on 79 pts

This season, with 2 games to go, 3 teams have already surpassed that total and another is already on 76pts

Does it mean anything? Is this year's league weaker so the better teams amass more points ?

Last season's Championship was weird and fairly unique. How could a team that gained automatic promotion (us) score less goals than a team that was relegated (Peterborough)?

I think it was one of the lowest points totals ever for auto promotion and one of the highest ever for relegation.

The bottom teams where a lot stronger last year.

All, but Bristol City ended with more the 50 points.

Huddersfield finished 19th with 58 points. That would get mid table this year.

Last season there was only 14 points separating the play offs from relegation & only 25 points between promotion & relegation.

It was a far more competitive league last season which makes our achievement in getting promoted even more impressive.

The top sides this season are better in my opinion ("you would say that") whereas the bottom sides have been worse.

In all honesty though, it doesn't matter. Leicester of this season would probably piss all over Hull of last season, but will the Leicester of next season be able to compete with the Hull of next season? That's the million dollar question. I think we're a few key signings away from it but we can only wait and see.

I watched the Burnley game earlier and they were woeful, they will need a full overhaul to be able to compete next season

This year's prem is a bit weird as well. Before the last set of games you had a team with 0 GD qualifying for Europe and now you have a team with joint lowest goals scored a point away from the top half.

Meanwhile in league 2, before today, the team at the top of the table had more draws than wins. Has that ever happened before?

League Two has been weird this season - no team has a genuine "automatic promotion-worthy" points tally. They should have massive playoffs with no team going up automatically.

Russ Wilcox has done a miraculous job at Scunny, he's got the World record for most wins as a first time manager, they've only lost 4 league games all season.

    28 games without defeat.

Don't see how you can compare one season to another really as you can only beat what is in front of you.

Hard to judge any team on one performance - especially one where they need a win to get promoted. Bound to be nervous to some degree. However, no doubt Burnley and whoever comes up in the play-offs will be deemed relegation favourites next time around

No it doesn't matter and yes you are 2 transfer windows behind us. If we can add similar quality to our squad in the summer as we did in January and last summer then you will probably need several signings to get to where we are now. Depends where square head feels you need to improve and on what kind of budget he is given of course, but I reckon you have more chance than Burnley plus whoever comes up through the play offs of survival.

A word of caution though - if we are talking about last season, Cardiff won the league by miles ...and look at them now :D

Exactly. When we won scruffily at Burnley and Huddersfield on Sky last season, people were judging us on just those performances, saying we were boring and dirty and whatever, and it frustrated a lot of people on here I remember, quite rightly as we played some decent stuff last season.

IMO, last season's championship was one of the best for years. This season has been less than so. But does it really matter anyway ? We have moved on. <cool>

It's hardly a shock - everyone from media to fans last season said repreatedly that the beauty of the Championship was 'any team can beat any other team', and so it proved time and again. I dont think that's anywhere near the case this season.

Didnt Posh take 9 points off the 2 promoted sides last season (from memory)? Might have been 7, I cant be arsed to check.
