Ole Gunnar Solskjaer: 'Sunderland match like a cup final' Cardiff manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prior to kick-off against Swansea during their Premier League match on February 8, 2014 Tweet By Alex Meyers, Reporter Filed: Monday, April 21, 2014 at 01:27 UK Last Updated: Monday, April 21, 2014 at 01:27 UK Cardiff City manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has claimed that next weekend's Premier League match against Sunderland will be like a cup final. The Bluebirds are just one point above the Black Cats in the table ahead of the clash at the Stadium of Light, and Solskjaer admits that it is a game they must win. "Next weekend it is a proper cup final," Sky Sports quotes him as saying. "If you talk about league games that mean the same for both teams, then that is us and Sunderland. Next weekend will be the same mental test for both. "It is a massive game for us, and we will prepare as if it is the last game we will ever play. "I think we will probably have to have five more points to give us a chance. I don't think 34 points will be enough, 35 might be enough, and 36, I think, will be enough." Cardiff came from behind to claim a 1-1 draw against Stoke City at the weekend.
I'm pleased, for once, that TV has brought this forward to a daft o'clock kick off. It has to make a difference to the away team & fans and we need to be out of bed early and attacking them The Wheatsheaf might be worth a look in around 11am
Won't make a difference to our players, they're flying up North on Thursday afternoon after training. However, my bus leaves at 3:05am. The joys....
Thanks you friend, Sunderland has been my team since 2006 when i first went to Sunderland, I love Sunderland, now am in Ireland and miss the Sunderland people very much.
Let's hope the last two results has the fans up for it and not as nervy as usual. They could prove to be the 12th man and lift the players into believing the SOL is their turf and they will fight for everything.
I disagree. The Cardiff players will be away from their homes, and familiar surroundings, for 4 days. That has to make a difference, the Sunderland players will have a much more normal routine and no travelling. We're driving up on Saturday night so we'll be much fresher than you
The fact that Cardiff need the win should play into our hands as they won't shut up shop. That's when we have problems, trying to break teams down
Wasn't that a Saturday 3pm kick off? I'd be really surprised if Cardiff travelled to Southampton on a Wednesday for that game. Are you coming up?
Our performance vs Cardiff will tell me if we deserve it, all season we haven't played as well as we have against the bigger teams or in the derbies
Make or break says gus http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/sp...inly_decide_Sunderland_s_Premier_League_fate/
"GUSTAVO POYET admits Sunday's game with Cardiff City will almost certainly decide Sunderland's Premier League fate." Some people may believe that's unfairly loading pressure onto the players. I think that the players need to be 100% sure that the pressure's on and deal with it ...... the fate of the entire club could be decided by this match. Cardiff have just the same pressure and the Sunderland supporters need to load more onto them and not us. Groaning at the first misplaced pass isn't the way forward, we need to support the Lads when we struggle not just like we did at Chelsea.
Is the last sentence you or Gus speaking? Either way it's spot on!! How much did we profit against Villa by immediately turning on Lee Cattermole for his role in their goal. OK so it was his fault, but you could see that the fans quickly turned a player, who has been certainly one of our better ones this season, to nerves. I have no gig on Sunday night so, start to finish, I will be making a ****ing racket on Sunday and getting behind the lads.1 to 11 (or 20 to 33 including lower numbers!!) will get my full, vocal support on Sunday.
You've sussed me, I knew I'd never keep it a secret from you clever lads ........... thanks for your support, Gustavo
