David Davis present MP for Haltemprice & Howden. There is a sign for Haltemprice Leisure Centre (sorry). I'm almost certain that in the dim & distant past, there were signs for Haltemprice.
So why didn't you state "It's not a question of liking or disliking, it simply no longer exists. It's about history and culture." ?
http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/258942-Imaginary-places-(was-motd-2)?p=6383700#post6383700 There's the clippings you were making a fool of yourself on. Feel free to carry it on, I'm intrigued to see if you can sink even lower.
Not a case of sinking lower- just stating facts for the obstinate amongst us. Feel free to continue the denials, I'm off to listen to Radio Humberside now.
Hey, Dutch! You know that "East Coast Town" that got a hell of a bombing in WWII? Well - it's a city and it's not on the East Coast......
# Why is Humberside 'offensive' but Merseyside and Tyneside isn't ? Hull was the regional capital of Humberside. But all the financial benefits that brought to the area was thrown out of the window because a few avid letter writers to the HDM, one particular from Flamborough who's name escapes me made it his own personal battle. The original argument was about postcodes and not having 'East Riding of Yorkshire' included on your postal address. The abolition resulted in hundreds of lost jobs. Not to mention lost opportunities. Now we have the situation where Hull wants to extend its boundaries, as it surely should, and the ERCC who's HQ is in Beverley defends it's boundaries as it did when it was called Haltemprice. People are proud to be from Merseyside. I wonder why we feel as though we are so different?
Merseyside and Tyneside are their historic areas, nobody inflicted the names upon them against their wishes. If London were to have Thameside inflicted on them, or York Ouzeside, then they'd feel exactly the same as us. There were no lost opportunities due to it's abolition, if was a ****ing stupid thing to try and implement.
They came here because we have cheap labour and an empty dock, they couldn't give a flying **** what the area is called.
The Merseyside/Tyneside issue was discussed earlier, but they seperate an area, such as Liverpool, from another, such as Manchester, so it gathered less opposition. We were being lumped with Scunthorpe and Grimsby, who we have nothing in common with the south bank apart from sharing a view on an estuary. If there was a link, businesses would have made capital on it. The ports are all linked anyway. Strictly speaking, Beverley was the regional capital, it being the seat of the administration. We're still paying for many of the expensive mistakes of that failed administration.
There was a parish (wapentake) called Hullshire that ran to Ferriby. The County for Hull is actually Kingston. It's the City and County of Kingston upon the River Hull.
Not exactly. Proximity to the Rough Array, suitable facilities in terms of water access and depth of estuary/river, proximity to motorway network, proximity to south bank renewables companies etc etc . We had the best set of components for the decision. Plus we maybe had a stock of manila envelopes.
