    It depends its hard to claim who is the best band, but I have a list of important bands IMO

    Velvet underground, Beatles, rolling stones, the who, MC5, sex pistols, the clash, dead Kennedy 's, Ramones, joy division, the smiths, Jesus and Mary chain, New order, MBV, ride (nowhere album only) sonic youth, pixie's ........................

    Influenced by the great bands of the sixties, fused great melodies with fast paced guitars (after the prog rockers had slowed things down so boringly in the seventies) and spawned many really good copyists.

    Joey, Johnny, Dee Dee, Tommy - it has to be.
