Dead on here, ain't it? We're 3 games away from our first league title in 24 years! How can something that's so close feel so far away? 7 points out of our next 3 games and we've won the league, irrespective of other results. But, even if we lost all three, this season would still be a huge success, not only by finishing third or second, but by breaking that 80 point barrier, while scoring 96 goals. Absolutely astonishing, from 7th place in the league, from having an outside shot of champions league qualification, we've wrestled a title challenge. It's amazing to think we've won 11 on the bounce and still not much between all the teams, that just shows the margin for error in this league, and how well we've done. This is the most exciting period in our clubs recent history, with being on the verge of an Anfield expansion, a new exciting young coach and the prospect of further champions league football, it feels like Rodgers is creating his own legacy, and he's doing it in some style. But, if we were to do the impossible and pull out a title win, this would be one of the greatest achievements in the clubs glorious history, it would be up there with Istanbul. We had no chance at the start of the season. Rivals continue to make excuses - Penalties, no Europe, Suarez, whatever. It's an unusual feeling, but when you're the top of the league, every one will do anything to shoot you down. But, what a roller coaster the next 3 games are going to be. Bust out all the old clichés, but, 3 massive cup finals on the horizon, are our lads up to it. One thing though.. One thing is for certain.. And that is.. #NOJINX please log in to view this image
Wrong. They have everything to play for. They can say that they beat the mighty LIVERPOOL. (Not that they would, but you get the idea).
Mourinho would relish getting one over on us. I think he hates us even more than he hates Pellegrini now
Nice post Magic I do pinch myself occasionally to remind myself where we actually are right now. BRs post match interview mentioned the huge increase in goals and when you stop and think about it its remarkable. When he joined us 20 months ago we had scored 47 league goals in the previous season. We will probably break the hundred mark before this season is out. Its one hell of a season, best for years
11 game winning streak on it's own is exceptional, regardless of league position. And the manner in which we've done it! Carragher referred to it earlier today - Not one 1-0 in there. We've played to our strengths, we haven't got the best attackers in the league, but the intensity of our attacking play as a unit is ruthless, the way we flood men forward, press high up the pitch and have Gerrard pulling the strings in midfield is just, as the kop would sing, poetry in motion. We can't predict what's going to happen in the remaining three games, we haven't won anything yet, but if we are going to do it.. It'll be in some style! Potentially breaking the PL scoring record set by Chelsea?
We binged on three 1-0s in a row and spoiled it for ourselves. Now just thinking about a 1-0 makes us feel sick.
Thats a bit like saying no one wants to lose a friendly; obvious but still lacks the full commitment needed.
its really down to this next week. if man city deign to lose (they go to palace and play westbrom at home tomorrow) well if lfc beat chelsea then chelsea are done. we would be on 83 points and mancity would be on 74 with 3 to play..... we'd need 1 point in tat case from 2. again.. if city lose.... if we win.... hope for the best. even better two city draws would put the title in our hands with a win v chelsea. 73 with 9 to play for = 82. imagine knowing that if city drop ANY POINTS V WEST BROM and seeing us scrapE 1-0 at home.... WITH MOURINHO DRIVEN BONKERS BY BAD REFFING well i'd be watching palAce city with GREAT INTEREST.
I don't think City will take maximum points from the remaining fixtures. I suspect 5 points will be enough to win the title. Obviously, the team has to try to win all three just in case- but City has more fixtures to close in on- and psychologically they appear to be in "defeat" mode right now. Let's hope we win all three remaining fixtures, but I bet a win and two draws would end up being enough.
