I am considering taking my lad to his first away game. I am not considering Old Trafford as its a night match, plus on a selfish note I have seen City at Old Trafford. I can only afford the one, both will cost approximately £90.00 inclusive of travel. Which would you choose?

Fulham. It will be sunny and a nice little stadium. Very nice area and a pleasant day out all round.

I'd say Villa - it's a shorter trip for him and a more impressive stadium.

The game at Fulham will probably be more entertaining and goal-laden, though.

They're both proper old skool grounds even if Villa's has been tackily refurbed.

Depends how you're travelling, never been to the cottage before so no idea about getting to and from there, but villa park is an absolute **** of a ground to drive to. If you go in a car prepare to be stuck in traffic around the stadium for up to 3 weeks after the match finishes.

I hope not, the Mrs would not be happy. He is privileged though as has not been party to the dark days not knowing anything different than either Championship or Premiership.

Yeah, it's a shame the opportunity no longer exists for young lads to go to football matches in order to witness grown blokes kicking the **** out of each other in the street, eh Reg?

I would guess the majority of todays supporters haven't known the dark days, so there shouldn't be a problem there. Its just something you can use against him in the future when the need arises.

Not sure what you use can that claim for though.

You only need that when you want to make out you are the best supporter ever ever ever on an internet forum.<laugh>

Villa's prices stink too, another reason to opt for Fulham. And we could secure our Premier League status there.

Fulham is my recommendation out of those two. More likely to be a game that junior will enjoy.

I think I am right in saying that we have played Fulham in all 4 divisions, the FA Cup and the League Cup.

Been a few times and never sat in traffic once.

As you come off the motorway, there's a social club that has cheap beer, parking and a burger stall. Park there, walk through the park to the ground. Have an after match pint or two and watch as the traffic clears before driving home.<ok>

I doubt that since only supporting City for 35 years, give it 50 years and may be. However saying that as a pass holder I just cannot afford to go to all away games, so after that 50 years would not be able to claim that even then. Perhaps you can claim that title.

As for the topic of the thread it appears Fullam is more popular. Just have to take plenty of sweets and games to keep him occupied for the journey.

Round Villa Park is a dump- but it's a traditional Victorian/Edwardian area that's gone downhill.

Fulham has some 'posh' houses near it that are like the bigger houses on Holdyernose Rd, Bev Rd and Anlaby Rd.

Of course, taken as a (w)hole, London is the biggest and worst ****hole this country has to offer and he may not be ready for it.

If you want him to not see grown men crying and to experience the joy of a win, I'd take him to Villa. I can't see us beating Fulham after their massive turn around, whereas I can see us doing Villa.

You sound like Londoners who read about Hull and are bussed in and out for the match.

London has so many fantastic places to live.
