On the journey back now so thought Id write the report! THE GAME In short, we should not have lost that game. We were the better side and had the best chances which all unfortunately fell to Maiga. Leicester were nothing special, and have some of the most ungracious fans I have seen. Before the game I wondered how much we would lose by after seeing the team. However, we won a corner within seconds of the start and whilst they had chances we looked comfortable. Kranjcar showed some good touches and combined with Suk young a number of times. We were set up defensive but were counter attacking well. Although towards the end of the half Green passed short to Henry who lost the ball and Green was rounded, but Onuoha cleared off the line. Half time sub was Benayoun off and SWP on which was harsh on Benayoun. However, we continued in the same spirit. What let us down was our final ball or finishing. Two more chances fell to Maiga and it looked like we needed to make a sub. Leiecester did and within seconds Nugent had scored. We made our subs too late but chances continued to be wasted. Not a game we should have lost. THE RATINGS GREEN - 7 - thought he should have done better with the goal but made a number of quick throws to set attacks up and claimed crosses well. ASSOU-EKOTTO - 5 - not a great attitude when he got beaten. Not sure if the first yellow should have been a straight red? But on a yellow he shouldnt be giving the ref an option to send him off. HUGHES - 6.5 - generally was solid but nugent got through his CB side. Positioning seemed ok. ONUOHA - 7 - solid and made several runs forward. A calming influence at times. SIMPSON - 7 - good performance on his first captaincy for us. Got forward well and seemed solid with plenty of energy. HENRY - 6 - generally passed well and got stuck in, but almost conceded a goal in first half when he should not be losing the ball. ONEIL - 5.5 - lost the ball a few times and put in a couple of poor corners. Never had great control when in posession it seemed. BENAYOUN - 6.5 - plenty of energy and tried to create things. Always keen to recieve the ball but perhaps not as influential as he normally is. KRANJCAR - 7 - played on the RW and proved our biggest attacking threat. Set up Maiga for a number of chances which were wasted. Tried to create and looked the most likely to do something with a few nice touches. SUK-YOUNG - 6.5 - played LW and put in a decent performance but did miss a number of through ball chances. Caused problems though and didnt look out of place. MAIGA - 3 - our worst player who as i said missed at least 4 great chances. Any decent striker would put at least one if not two away. Generally looked lost out there and every touch looked clumsy. SUBS: SWP - 5 - actually came on and caused problems but little if no end product. ZAMORA - 6 - much better than Maiga but didnt really get a chance that Maiga had fall to him. MORRISON - 5.5 - why wasnt he brought on earlier!? The game needed him as was shown when he had a decent chance. FINAL WORD As i said, a decent striker and we would have won that. Butit was a defensive set up from the start against a poor Leicester. Cant see how they have run away with the league. If we had got at them more and showed a greater desire we would gave won. We lacked that bit of fight, especially once we had gone 1-0 down. Not enough energy as a team or desire to win second balls. Cant believe im sitting here and we have lost though, we just didnt take our chances. It has been a similar story in a number of games.
Thanks for that Judo. I agree that we shouldn't have lost that and Maiga is indeed awful. However, I thought 7 was a bit high for Green and I think Kranjcar played in the centre behind Maiga, not on the RW. Pretty much agree with the rest though.
We never really got going but still breezed the game, Maiga should have scored in the first half but then Andy King missed two sitters (including an open goal). Maiga was absolutely bobbins. Krancjar summed himself up. Looked good on the ball, neat and tidy and all that but could not be bothered. Assou Ekotto should have been sent off in the first half. Why does Redknapp continue to leave wide players on the bench and play 5 centre mids? Baffles me. Overall, I think you'll need to play better to win the playoffs but I don't think anyone will fancy playing you because you can beat most sides in the league on your day. The game summed up why both clubs are where they are in the league. We wanted to win a hell of a lot more than you did.
Yes it was like we were playing with 10 men from there on in. Every ball returned to sender, and he kept drifting out of position. Simpson seemed to be having a word before he'd even started. He was good early season, but clearly wasn't interested today. Also think Maiga deserves more than a 3, he linked well with Kranky in the first and had a decent effort deflected out for what should have been a corner, easier to see on a stream. Maiga - 4.5 - for effort.
As is the case with your fellow fans who posted on the match day thread, you completely ignore the fact that we rested players for this game and only 3 or 4 at the most who started this game would start a play off semi. Even the ridiculously biased sky commentators managed to point that out! Had a fit Austin been playing today we would have won, simple as. For the record........your team of diving, whining, whinging tarts will get absolutely destroyed in the Premier League and you'll need to buy almost an entire new team.
Now now col don't e bitter . We don't intend to follow the QPR blue print of premier league and buying utter ****e for millions. Lol
Well Judo, Redknapp agrees with you, interviewed on Final Score he thinks we were very good. Garth Crooks and Danny Mills think we've failed this year, should have done a Newcastle with our squad, and both reckon we will struggle in the play offs, with Derby and Wigan stronger. Am I right in thinking if Wigan win their game in hand we go 5th?
for the record Col, i did point this out to the LCFC boys a couple of months ago, but they insist they are good enough. Im just siting back waiting for it all to unravel as we know it will. they think this league has some bearing on the prem, when in reality, what happens in the NPC means absolutelu sweet Fa in the prem Still, they will all want pearson gone by Xmas and we may get a decent NPC manager. they wanted him gone not long ago, andnow lok at them backtrack as if they know what they are talking about. heres an idea. next time a leicester fan posts on here, ask them why they all wanted NP gone but have changed thier minds.? ive asked on many occaisions but they are to scared to answer..probably because they know; that we know; that they know the answer. thell be back down in 12 months so just enjoy the decimation...
I agree with rangercol, Leicester in my opinion are not a particularly good side in which is a very mediocre championship season.
.................rangercol oh dear not another sore loser you lot are.. because the best team won Yes!! and QPR lost Yes! Get over it
Good summary, Judo. Onouha my MoM for us. Harry seems to have been prepared to sacrifice this game and is aiming at getting max points or close from the next three. I doubt he'll keep our top players in cotton wool for these matches. We need them match fit and sharp, so Harry will have to take some risk here over possible injuries
Well done Foxes what else can be said. It's a massive failure to lose this league by 20 points IMO. to a side that to be fair haven't been brilliant
I do not believe that we deserved anything today and even Leicester did not impress me too much we never created any chances and apart from a good spell in the first half, we never looked like a team that could match them. It amazes me that some people here cannot admit that Leicester showed a good performance and always wanted to beat us even though they were already promoted. It is absolute nonsense to believe they may not survive PL just because of todays game - they will bring in some decent players like most teams that went up did before. What worries me a lot more is our coach who does not seem to have a clue for the starting line. Harry should have anticipated the red card and bringing in some attacking force at the end (last ten minutes or so) showed once more again that he does not have a clue and I realy doubt that we will go up with him. Sorry fellow R´s but this was just another piss poor performance in another wasted season.
Just watched a bit of the 2nd half of Watford's 3-1 win over Ipswich - they have their tails up, know how score goals, so we'll have to be at our best to get a result on Monday. If Wigan win their game in hand then we'll be in 5th place on GD.
Wahey, one of you has some common sense Good post Butthuber. We are under no illusions that we'll have to strengthen in order to survive in the Premiership (contrary to the bizarre opinion some of you have of us ), but hey, it's been 10 years since we've been in the Premier League, at this moment, we're just absolutely delighted to be back!
We'll be going into the play off with a number of players injured/lacking match practice, with inconsistent team selection and overall poor results for 2 months plus, with shocking away form, I'm taking nothing for granted. I hope we field whatever a strong team looks like on Monday, take the game to Watford and convince ourselves than trying to win games rather than trying not to lose them is the way forward. 3 wins needed from the last 3 games with decent performances, we need to get on a roll, sharpish. I enjoyed the Forest game, the scoreline flattered us but we looked like we could score goals and did. More of that please.
Jeez.......you lot are obnoxious!! You're up...........you'll win the league.............now please, **** off grandad!
