Still like Bob Carvers.... Fish & Chips or a snack like a chip butty. Had the best Bob Carvers ever walking up to the West Brom game from town.....heaven!
The fish and chips in oz are good but I miss a good haddock chips and mushy peas. Does anyone remember Bernadette's (I could have the name wrong) on Hull Road in Anlaby Common? That was a king of chip shops...
It was a good chippy, I think it's a Chinese now. Though Anlaby still does alright, Frydays is one of the best around.
Lammie is that carvers in town Chapel st still open, if so any idea if they are open after Saturday matches?
I just checked and it doesn't open on a night, so unless it's an early kick off, you're a bit knackered, as it shuts at 5.00pm. Goldenfry at the end of Saville St is decent, but you'd still have to get a jog on, as that closes at 5.30 on Saturdays.
I lived on Anlaby common and it used to be call Leckenby's, not sure if the spelling is right, but that was in the sixties, after that I don't know.
That's interesting because I knew a lad with that name and one of his relatives (his gran I think) worked there when it was called Bernadette's - we used to order a bag of chips each and she'd sneak a pattie in there as well.
Yes I went to Frydays a couple of times last time I was home. I was particularly impressed with how crunchy the batter was on their giant haddock - I'm getting hungry again!
They must have changed the name Bernadette's, as it was on the corner of Bernadette Avenue and Hull Road Anlaby.
I'm fairly certain the last guy who owned it wasn't a Leckenby.. He had the shop for years and he was a bit of a strange cat.
Do you walk back to station? Could you get some down spring Bank? Crisp and Fry corner of Collingwood St.
Or a pint in Clarry and then chippy next door and a qucik nip through St Stephens and your at station
I see you come up from Portsmouth, have you thought of getting a bike, you could Bike to the station, put it on the train, bike to the ground, and when leaving go via Spring Bank buy fish and chips and be at the station in time for the return journey. Just a thought.
Now an Indian with no customers. Previous was blown out water by the bubble-owned ATLANTIS 1. Before that it was a feller with big ears & his lad. Before them, it was the Baron family. He died of heart attack and his ginger widow sold up. The door used to be held open by the classic 'cripple' collection figure. A bit like this. please log in to view this image Hope this helps.
We went to Woody's first off when I got home. I have to say I wasn't a fan. The chips were very greasy and didn't taste good. O/T I then discovered the cured bacon rolls for a quid in Fields - they were impressive
