I'm looking on this transfer as a positive sign for the strength of our squad this season -

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_div_2/default.stm

We've heard almost nothing about the CB position in the current round of transfer manoeuvring but as several Addicks have now posted, things may start snapping into sharp focus on 30th June, when contracts expire and pre-transfer agreements can be made public.

The reason I'm viewing this as so positive is if we can let a player like this go to what's likely to be a very significant rival, we must have some damned good players lined up for the 30th.

Am I alone in thinking along these lines?

i think we have bigger worries than who other people are signing. at the moment i just cant work us out. on one hand we look like a mini AC milan, (apparently) signing players like alonso, evina. then on the other, we're signing basement bargains like pritchard, hollands etc. do we have money or not is probably what i'd like to know most. if we do then why do semedo and racon look like they're off. we've said we'd like to keep them.

most other teams can name 8 or 9 of their starting 11 for next year. i cant name 5 (elliot, hollands, bwp, benson, waggy - even 2/3 of them are questionable).

No, I'm not worried SiG, that's the point - think I might have worded this post wrong, I'll go off and have a think about it.

We haven't let anyone leave for a rival club.

Tewkesbury is trying to say that we have let a good player pass us by and join a rival club. Danny Wilson has obviously got his man, Lescinel, due to the Swindon connection. But I agree, he could have been a good signing.

Who said we didn't try, and fail, to sign him?

I am not at all worried that Sheff Utd signed a Centre Back from a team that has just been relegated, look at us last season? we "Snapped up" McCormack and Francis and they have been largely disappointing, it was reported that McCormack was a Bailey-esque Midfielder and a bit of a nutter,...never saw it!!

I actually feel encouraged that we have signed some unknowns who might feel they have something to prove, and although it seems like we are being linked to a lot of players, I am optimistic that we'll have a team that will want to compete next season.
Last season you could read the body language of the team like a book....and not a very good one! Hearing players blaming fans and cancelling there Twitter accounts etc because "fans" were voicing their opinions started to get very tedious.
I like most of the other Charlton faithful have invested a lot of time and money into the club and think its only fair that we see people who want to play for us. I think everything so far this pre-season has been a move forward from the doldrums of last year.

Had you been having a few sherberts Tewkes ?

I myself am happy with who we are linked with, if they come off and a couple more good signings come after june 30th i think we are looking good.

I hope we get Evina and alonso, holland is an ok signing.. I am still bemused why people are so stuck on racon and semedo.. we have them and have gone no where.. we need to spice it up like a curryhouse !

Sorry everyone - I wasn't at my most articulate when I wrote this post last night. Ponders End is right, that's exactly what I meant...

Sat in Greenwich, this is the current squad (give or take) that have contracts that run past 30th June, taken from another thread -

    GK
    Elliott
    Sullivan
    Gough
    Pope

    Defence
    Solly
    Mambo
    Francis
    Doherty

    Midfield
    Wagstaff
    Hollands
    Pritchard
    Jackson (defence if necessary)
    McCormack
    Davisson
    Warren

    Up Front
    BWP
    Benson
    Harriott
    Popo

I see that the last of my pre-season "wouldn't it be good to get these three from Swindon" tips, John-Paul McGovern, has now gone to Carlisle.

A very good signing for Carlisle! Was very impressed with him whenever I saw him play. Seem to remember him being on the small side, but was gifted technically.

So 4 defenders, 3 midfeilders including a winger, and forwards and we might have half a team!
