As the title of the thread suggests, I was wondering what everyone's opinions were on Cardiff this season.

As a Jack working in Cardiff a lot of their fans blame the sacking of Malky Mackay as the root of their troubles, but with some of the Premier League standard talent they've brought in (Kenwyne Jones, Zaha) you would have expected them to have done a bit better.

    Thoughts?

They have no identifiable football strength, or club philosophy which is at the root of their problems, and their chairman is a compounding issue. The game has moved on from hoofball, and all the games I have watched Cardiff play, they are poor at keeping the ball, this fundamental issue of possession is at the center of their defeats, and had they not had an outstanding keeper, they would look even more dreadful.

Given our precarious position, I'm not sure it's wise to start a thread about why Cardiff have done badly. Try again in June if we've stayed up.

I was simply interested in starting an intelligent discussion beyond "because they're scum" :p

If Cardiff are so bad, what does that say about us - only a few points ahead of them?

Must explain why your more pissed than me <cheers>

Jokes aside. Our football has been poor this season, in all honesty, it wasnt the greatest last season. We won an average championship and were above average. If we stay up we can look to rebuild next season. As much as I dislike Tan, if he goes, so does the money <ok>

Because of Marshal , otherwise they would be really , really horrible . He's the only reason we are looking over our shoulder

Marshall has pulled off some phenomenal saves. Also Fraizer Campbell looked like a good signing early on but he's gone missing as of late.

I agree with Jay and most of the other comments here. Tan is only part of the problem and if I was a Cardiff fan I'd be torn between cringing every time he said or did something as opposed to him walking away and putting us into freefall.

From what I've seen they lack a potent goal threat and give away possession far too easily. I saw some of their last game and they kept passing the ball back to Saints players time after time but they got lucky facing a Southampton team that uncharacteristically on the day couldn't put the ball away.

Marshall is definitely destined for bigger things. It's only a guess but I reckon he's saved them at least 12 points this season if not more and the guy deserves the accolade as the best in the Prem, having had to make more saves than any other and doing brilliantly.

Lastly, I agree that we're no great shakes either and there's not much between us. It's entirely possible they could finish above us. But by and large we've been playing well with a few exceptions (WBA and Palace) and that has to give us some hope. Cardiff have been very poor and luck can only take you so far.

I wonder how many extra points we would have amassed this season if we had a keeper of his quality in goals. Don't get me wrong I love Michel Vorm but he'll be the first to admit that he hasn't lived up to the hype of last season.

You'd probably have about a dozen less than you've actually got now according to Dai. Apparently Marshall would be third choice at Swansea.

Well IF anyone said that they'd be wrong. Marshall is head and shoulders above anyone this season and I include Cech, Hart and Mignolet in that. Vorm can be decent but wouldn't make the top 5 imo.

All I can say is thank goodness they and Sunderland have performed like they have and who knows if the results go their way they could yet stay up at the expense of Fulham and Norwich (Sunderland must be dead certs to go down).

I would certainly have Marshall as that guy has performed miracles this season and will undoubtedly be the target of a few Premier league clubs in the summer.

We said that about Vorm in our 1st season , perhaps complacency had set in with him ? .He's a good keeper but he's not done enough to earn his money this season .

No "IF" about it Dragonborn - I've got a reasonably decent memory despite my vast age (according to your part namesake Phil <laugh>) - Dai posted this on a thread about Marshall a few weeks back, and there have been many others similar.......

"I praised Marshal and he has been the best player for cardiff but as for a great keeper then we have two better. Marshal has also been responsible for cardiff's losses also but because he is the best player they have got then he will always stand out.....If you are a premiership keeper then you should be able to make saves better than most of the lower league keepers and some of those saves will be great saves or he would not be there...their goal difference is the second worst in the premiership and it tells a story why cardiff are in a relegation place...I would not want marshal here at swansea in place of the three keepers we have..."

Dai is entitled to his opinions like everyone else on here, it's just he always seems to think his are bulletproof.

I will add that I've got on quite well with Dai over many years on here and before on the old BBC forum - Dai is Dai.

I think Vorm is more suited to the Swans because of his distribution, Marshall has been a great stopper for Cardiff. Main problem for Cardiff has been the lack of goals, main problem for Swansea is conceding goals. Swans have been very poor defensively this season.
