Still look on the bright side. According to some fans I know the fact that we beat Man Utd at Old Trafford means Pardew has shown he's a good manager....

tbf that would normally be the case, but, it was only Moyes' Man Utd that we beat.
Shame some of his predecessors and himself couldn't have outdone SAF.

Just as well the season started in August then.
As crap as we've been, still three teams worse than us...

I remember Peter Taylor at Leicester in around 2003(ish). He took over after O'Neill and did well at first then about his second or third season they were doing fantastic until the last few months then totally dropped off. The issue was then that they started the next season in the same manner because its hard to get that sort of spirit and momentum out of your system. Although he did also sign Akinbeye...

    We've been there ourselves.
Remember our complete f*** up in 79/80 under McGarry.
On 1st January 1980 we were 4 points clear (2 points for a win days) after beating Sunderland 3 - 1 at St James.

Then we went on an horrendous run of ONE win in Seventeen games and finished mid-table.
This season is a cakewalk compared to that one.
Lost momentum and it followed into the next season where we started badly, McGarry got the sack and Arthur Cox took over.

Typical Toon bad memories, from the high of stuffing the Mackems to being at Chelsea a fortnight later and being hammered 4 - 0.

Countering this though is that if the season ended around Dec/Jan we'd have been top 6 material. You can mess with stats to make them support any argument you like. As a whole we're a mid-table team and we're where we deserve to be regardless of how we did it. Maybe we'll suffer a hangover next season, but I'd have thought that was more likely to have happened after last season's relegation battle but we had a good first half to this season.

It's like when they used West Brom's 2013 calendar year record to highlight how poor Steve Clarke was doing, the season doesn't run like that so however he achieved last season's good league position, he still achieved it and he probably would have gone on to recover this season's form if given the chance.

Hughton got 2 more points then we did and still got sacked, couldn't make it before New Year(issues) and not heading over before season ends because of simple fact being a Toon supporter is embarrassing these days.We lost 12 out of 17 games this year, thank God it's spring cos I'm out in the garden on a saturday afternoon. We normally do 2 games a season and stay 2 nights so it's a few bob to the local community but how can I justify spending that money and know you are going to be beat?
Meanwhile our esteemed chairman is over here trying to buy up companies and willing to go to the High Court and lose which could well amount to a wage for a player in January window. He's trying to buy Elverys, iconic sports shop for Irish people because they sourced proper gear for all sports. If he gets control of it,God help us full of crap Puma and Dunlop!

Great graphs, lads, but doesn't read too well for you magpies. Luckily, you are still above Sunderland. I always want Newcastle to do well. I lived there for the best part of four years and found you the friendliest people on the mainland! Good luck for the rest of this season and, if we're still doing well going into last match, please don't spring another heart-stopping 4-3 game on us! <laugh><ok>
