I once sat on the knee of an older relative for the best part of a Play Away Xmas Special before my bladder relented. If that helps?
Before your time, there was an East by East West stand at Boothferry Park. Everyone mixed in there perfectly and in those days all of the songs were grounded by a staunch realism. âWeâre quite a decent side, that exists in Humbersideâ¦and itâs Hull Cityâ¦â
We were in 113 and saw the incident and would say that we all thought that they were as bad as each other. We had noticed the guy who got punched before this incident as up to the incident he had his back to the pitch a lot of the time trying to, what seems like, get the whole block to stand up by waving his arms up and singing if your city stand up. We did stand for the chant then sat down. The people in his group and around him all stayed standing the whole match and I did feel sorry for those people behind him, especially when I heard a guy asking a steward about people standing and him saying he had paid £50 for his ticket and he couldn't see anything. I am hoping this doesn't happen at the final - I am quite small and when everyone stands I can't see even when I am standing too!! So if we get behind a group who insist on standing all the time I won't see a thing! It was different in the days of all standing stadiums if someone was bigger than you all you had to do was move to the front or away from giant people. It would be nice if people had a bit more consideration of others!! I am not a west stand flanker by the way I sit in the east stand!! I await all the flak now from you all!!
I started going to Boothferry Park mid 1960s so not too young but not mega old either!! I remember the bad days too with the violence - the home game with Man utd comes to mind with the bricks being thrown at the police horses!! Did bring the memories back when I witnessed the violence on Sunday!!
