There's approximately a 10k difference in the average wages which works out at approx half a mill per year per player. To work out at 26mil difference that requires a squad size of 52 players.

I had already done the maths quickly in my head to figure out your 26mil number was not correct from any maths we could do with the numbers given. Which is why I asked where you had got the number from?

I took the figure, that Arsenal pay in GBP in expected wages to first team players.

Arsenal pays like £500k more per week.

  3. Pretty much what I thought bar the difference in squad numbers. You say it 52 plays, what if it 38 players for us but 44 players for you (just random numbers)

Well we dont know, hence I took the expected figures that both clubs pay out to "first team players"

I would expect Arsenal's wages to tally up considerably higher. No surprise at all. Their bench is much better. The avg player tenure at the club is longer. The consecutive UCLs...

According to that list the £500k figure is annual- the weekly figure is in brackets and is about £10k.
It is an average per player, therefore you need to know squad numbers to work out a more accurate figure.
It does say "first team" but doesn't explain further.

Isn't the common fan complaint at Arsenal that the average players get paid too much whilst the club is unwilling to pay top dollar for top talent (wages for top players and prospective signings)?

According to various lists both have about 32 first team players give or take a few youth/loans.

    Thats the spirit Gerrez.

truth is pay rises are probably in the contracts of all players. 25% increase if they get CL football.

Plus the £1m to Portsmouth if we win the league.

We could have used that to increase our next 1 million player bids by £1 <grr> :steam:

  12. FSG want to club to be self-sustaining. They won't suddenly chuck buckets of cash at the club because we have CL football. They are sensible enough to see that its viewed as a one off until we do it again next season. They won't pay over the odds to find we can't afford what we have committed to should we fail to qualify next season. That's not me being negative, that's me acknowledging realism because FSG work on budgets. they won't allow another Carroll and Downing situation to happen.

Our contracts are performance based so I have no doubt they'll get something out of qualifying. However, they will equally include a drop should we not maintain our position.

yep. Thats how I suspect it will work.

I suspect an increase would bring you inline with Arsenal though. For the season at least.

The figures quoted probably include all staff as well. I would guess Arsenal have more staff than Liverpool.

The figures from the article linked in the OP were for the average wage of a first team player. They weren't totals.

Look at the ages of the squads as well. Younger players normally earn a lot less than players in their late 20's early 30's.

Just looking at our first team, Flanagan, Sterling, Henderson, Coutinho, Allen are all quite young so probably joined on lower end salaries compared to player like Cazorla, Sagna, Podolski etc.

not sure i see the point in showing the dif between the wages to be honest, could have done this last year and you could have said it was justified but that wouldn't have filled column space i guess, they had cl football we didn't, this season we have probably over performed where as they have just been consistent (so far) ie top 4.

will they compare again next season when we hopefully have cl football and the wages would have gone up, hopefully not, but then they could use the same argument in wages against us ie say we end up 5th and arsenal still top 4, but the wages are similar because of ours probably having increased wages by then.

hopefully that made some sense, sorry head is a bit mashed this morning.

what we should all be asking is how can saints,Newcastle etc compete with a team in 7th who have a player on 300k a week in wages :bandit:

Personally I would take these figures with a pinch of salt. You can find Arsenal's financial results on the club website. It shows Arsenal have a total wage bill of £134 million divided amongst 537 employees, there are also 800 temporary match day employees.Nowhere does it show the wage bill for players only.If Arsenal don't show the total figure for players wages then I don't know where Sporting Intelligence get their information from.

I'm not sure but don't the salary details have to be scheduled with a copy of the contract and sent to both The Premiership and The FA?

People fixate about wages and net transfer spends in isolation, which isn't the right way to look at the issue.

Wages and fees = total player investment.

So while Arsenal have historically had a larger wage bill than most in the division, they've also got one of the smallest net spends.

Since 2003 their net spend is circa £17m, compared to Liverpool's circa £200m.

Their approach has always seen them try and grab young players from all over the globe and nurture them, as opposed to spending vast sums on the games finest players. Ozil might have signalled a change in that philosophy, but he was followed through the door by precisely no-one........
