I voted Go, and to be honest I think Scally will get rid. Season ticket sales are very likely to be down this summer, especially if Taylor stays, and nothing focuses Scallys mind like finance or lack of. Lots of fans I know aren't renewing. They might be cutting off their nose to spite their face, but I don't think many care any more. As some have said,if we are doing well we can always get a half season ticket at Christmas.
Completely agree Vinney. Hence why in my 'Disgraceful' thread I said that it has caused damage in percentage ST sales. I'm not sure when Scally is going to release the ST pricing but anytime in the coming week would not be a good idea. I saw a lot of very angry supporters at Leyton Orient yesterday, ok maybe not regulars but it will still have a knock on affect. People also have very long memories from the last season's ST fiasco. I said back then and i repeat now, Scally may have thought back then that in 9 months time people will forget but we don't and after yesterday what happened 9 months ago is going to come back and bite him big time, unless he put's a decent package together.
If we stay up, keep him - give him a chance to build his team. If we go down then he surely does not deserve a new contract.
I've voted stay. Although the nature of certain match performances has been...well...woeful and some of PT's decision making slightly odd, I'm personally just trying to look at the league picture as a whole. Ultimately at the start of the season I was just looking for Gillingham to stay in League 1. If I'd not seen any football all season and then someone just showed me the current table I would probably say ok that looks alright, five clear with four to play. Ok we can still go down but that would be a really impressive negative achievement. Saying we do stay up I say let him have the first 10 games of next season and see where we sit.
The problem with letting him have the first 10 games then deciding is (a) we will have to give him a contact then have to pay him off and "b" any players he signs on contract may not suit a new manager. Either we sign him and stick with him for a couple of years or get shot and get a new man in.
This is a genuinely diffiicult question, simply put neither Taylor nor the playes are as bad as they are being made to look. We all know that Taylor is a good manager with success at this level, we have also seen from performance this seaosn the players are able to hold their own at this level too; but they simply don't work together. So we are left we two options, new manager who can get the best ou of the current crop of players or a whole new playing squad... I know what the cheapest option is but I don't know who would be willing to tak eon the job.
That's very true Vinney. I guess if we brought someone new in after 10 games we'd just see the same situation again as happened this season with PT working or trying to work with MA's squad and just get a disjointed season. I'm still leaning towards giving him the summer to reshape and then next season to show us his results.
Stay. He has far more contacts and friends higher up in the football pyramid than any replacement I can think of. With so many players out of contract come the end of the season he has a malleable squad to define as he pleases. The defensive tactics are annoying admittedly but understandable with the core defence we currently have. PT wishes to play football on the deck and if we can get two or three passing centre halves then we can develop on. I'd prefer to be a stable league 1 side for three years and mount a push for the championship than get through by smash and grab wins. Taylor can build that.
a very difficult question. I was not impressed when Peter took over and we went out of the fa cup against a non league team but at home in general we have been pretty good. we have 48 points with 4 games to go which should with 4 more points keep us up. He has done what i was hoping when he arrived. Gills are always involved with either promotion or relagation never a straight forward team in the middle. The answer is stay if we are in league 1 go if we are in league 2.
i think if he keeps us up he should stay. not sure how attractive the job would look an up and coming and ambitious manager if Taylor is let go. MA overachieves by a distance by-passing the play offs and delivering the championship but it sacked early on in league 1. Peter Taylor comes in with the sole brief of keeping us up- if we then sack him despite him achieving that then what security or attraction is there for an incoming manager with this very average squad and limited budget. if scally has someone decent up his sleeve then great but i doubt it.
