The afters list isn't players I was necessarily saying we should go for, just interested to see they are out of contract.
A lot will depend on the new inevitable wage structure that will be imposed. If, as expected, Cellino slashes the wage bill, the days of the 15 to 20k a week players will be long over. That will rule out a fair whack of home players, in it only for the money. I suspect we will have a strong Continental feel to future squads and that may well be a big positive
Excellent point Eire!!! That is going to be the key ... how much is Cellino going to be willing to put into wages? If he buys back Elland Road and TA, then that's going to be a chunk of capital unavailable. I also think a lot will depend on him selling Cagliari, if it happens then maybe we will have a bigger wage budget than anticipated, and at least he has stated there is only room in his heart for one club, and that club is Leeds. Josh, I know you weren't saying sign the "bench" list ... after all your main list is so good it would rock if we could get them
Looks like the young keeper from Southend is the chosen one .See my tip Jamie Murphy scored and made on yesterday for the blades I wrote to BM about him saying get rid of Stewart and Kebbie and get Murphy and Burke
leedsrev, that's a good list as well ... Gosling and Boyata would be super, but imagine wages will be a pain ... as for keepers Speroni any day but think Palace will keep him ... Fabianski off to Germany, think it's Schalke he's signed for ... Friedel would be a massive influence in the dressing room
Eire, I'd take your point a lot further. I think every name on this list is wishful thinking. Why? Because they're all Brits. Remember, Cellino is doing the buying based on his scouting network. As far as I'm aware, that network doesn't extend to the UK. He doesn't have a true feel for the players. Yet. Perhaps by January or next summer he'll be more confident in our market. For the time being, he's made promotion promises & will stick to what he knows to deliver. I believe we'll be lucky to sign 1 or 2 Brits, no matter what they cost, or what we have to pay them.
Jock, not sure about January, as it seems we will have a transfer embargo placed on us for that window due to reporting losses of over £8m for the last financial year before Cellino's takeover was approved ... that means we are in breach of FFP rules and the penalty is no transfers in January
Ffp will see a lot of plaŷers having to settle for smaller wage packets, in a whole new market we will be able to get better for less.
That's going to hurt some supporters who have for years stated we would be bringing back Ian Harte, Alan Smith and Lee Bowyer. So glad it never came true as it never was likely to, still sad that they don't have anyone else to claim is returning to a hero's welcome back..
Sick of work, thinking about going to Barnsley on Saturday. Was going to give it a miss but I can see us relegating them so might be a good trip. Touring cars at donnington on Sunday so would stay over near Nottingham.
Evening all No previous players please, those bring back smith threads used to do my head in. New owner, new start.
I'd love to be in that position to be able to go to that match. My young lads have gone to donny, sheff w and udders away and want to add more Yorkshire away trips. Don't know much about the cars, more a speedway fan. Anyway, go to the match...
