http://www.pitchero.com/clubs/portsmouthfcladies/l/news-114774.html?news_id=1197646 The match preview can be found there. Basically, comrades. This is the big one. If you live in Portsmouth or know anyone who does, we NEED your support! Win this match and Pompey are in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup! BUT we're facing higher league opposition (Durham being in WSL2) who have at least two internationals in their squad.... though hopefully one of them will be tired/not playing as she's been involved in three matches in a week. The 12th man made such a huge difference against Hartlepool, that kind of support could be VITAL in this fixture!
The final is held in that hotbed of English football.... Milton Keynes! Stadium MK or whatever they call it
Aaaaaaah! What a game!!!!! We came back from a goal down to score the winner in the 95th minute of extra time! In the second half, we were immense! And Durham were a super league side, and we were not! What a cupset! The FA won't be happy! We're now in the quarter finals of the FA Cup, the last 8! 8!!!!!
Excellent result !! Are you going to do a match report, Lapras ? When are the quarter final matches played ?
Nah, I'll just borrow one from the News or somewhere! The quarter finals are two weeks time. So who do you want Pompey to get?
Chelsea. They don't seem to have found their form this season, in the last 10 league matches, having only won 1 and our ladies are proving that we can beat Super League 2 teams, so let's show them how good we are against SL1
You'd think, being a club like Notts County that didn't exist until last April that they'd be relatively weak.... But as it turns out, they have at least one international playing for them, most likely more. I want either anyone except for Notts County at home or Chelsea away, possibly Arsenal away.
"We have been drawn at home to play @Official_NCLFC in the quater final of the @FA cup 27/4" Son of a whore! We would get the most unglamorous team left! Well, they seem to be full of internationals so they're still glamorous to some extent, but they're no Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool (or even City!)
If we beat Notts County Ladies, we will meet either Liverpool Ladies or Everton Ladies in the semi finals on 11 May. Surely that is some incentive to win
Charley Wilson hit a hat-trick as Pompey Ladies retained the Hampshire Cup with a resounding 6-0 triumph over the University of Portsmouth. The Privett Park triumph means the Blues have now won the competition for six successive seasons. They went ahead after only two minutes as Gemma Simmonds collected the ball on the edge of the box and rifled a shot past Sherry Fowler. The Portsmouth Uni keeper then made a fine save at the feet of Gemma Hillier to stop her side falling further behind. But she could do nothing about Pompeyâs second soon after, as Molly Clark was on hand to fire home after Jess Framptonâs cross was only partially cleared. Wilson then curled home an unstoppable shot before latching onto Hillierâs incisive pass to add a fourth goal just before the break. It was only Fowler preventing the Blues from scoring again early in the second half, with the keeper making impressive saves to deny both Fowler and Lysette Russell. But Hillier then found Wilson once more and the striker stayed cool to complete her hat-trick. And there was still time for Simmonds to net Pompeyâs sixth late and wrap up a comprehensive victory. Pompey: Blakely; Russell, Taylor (James 55), Schumann-Edwards, Bazan (Sievwright 55); Simmonds, Bloomfield, Clark, Frampton; Hillier (c), Wilson (Moulton 67) Subs not used: Cox, Quinn
I was surpised at how strong a line-up we played. Apart from Russell, all of those players are first teamers, albeit I think Bloomfield tends to not start (apparently she's 17, or at least was back in December). The subs all came from the reserve team though. Also surprised we didn't at least give Rhea Cox (our sub goalie) her debut as with a line-up like that, we'd still be able to win even with a debutant goalie. Glad Lucy Quinn didn't play though, she was injured in the game away to Charlton.
