I was in block 113 and got punched for singing. he didn't say anything to me at all in the entire game he just grabbed my top and swung at me!
Congrats on yesterday, and good luck in the final With regards to the fans - we had similar problems last year in the Play-Off Final, with the fans singing spread around in pockets trying to ecourage others around them to sing, and when they were told to sit down, it would start to get abusive. It also made the singing disjointed and at times trying to compete with each other. In comparison, Crystal Palace's support was superb. What they actually did was to allocate the section behind the goal for their group of 'singing supporters' and you could really tell the difference - where our club seemed to sell behind the goal tickets to employees first. This meant theirs were all grouped together while ours were spread about, and at times was hard to get the singing going. Unfortunately a few beers beforehand doesnt really help and some think they are 'supporting' the team better than others....
People can react however they want to. Also worth noting the opposition being two tiers below us had vastly different expectations, everybody expected us to win or at least cause them some problems. And apart from the goal we played like a fourth tier team in the first half of probably the second most important game this club has so far played. So there was some incredulity there. And really it's up to the players to lift their game, if you think supporters will make a team play better then I think that's a myth. People pay their money (quite a bit in some cases here) and expect to see something decent, the second half was way better of course but that first half....well, let's be honest here.
Not a great deal of tolerance from some elements in each camp in this debate. I'm in my early 60s, love to stand and sing as does my daughter and her two granddaughters. However, my 83 year old father is physically unable to stand for any length of time and physically unable to stand up quickly. He does his best to shout his support as he has done since the pre-war days. He understands that people will stand up as an attack unfolds or an incident occurs but gets annoyed when people in front of him make no effort to sit at all. He doesn't get abusive though. I try arranging suitable seating for him but at away games it's always a bit of a lottery as to how much of the game he gets to see. Don't even suggest he should sit in the disabled section. Let's have a bit of live and let's live shall we.
How you choose to enjoy the game is your own business, this could be drinking 10 pints and screaming until you can't speak, it can also be sat quietly with a cuppa appreciating the tactical intricacies of the game. What is a problem is when your way of watching the game spoils someone else's, that could be people abusing those that don't sing, it could equally be those behind harassing those in front to sit down, both are annoying and both are wrong. Like you say it would be good to get groups of like minded fans together but at games like yesterday it's just not possible. It isn't just our fans either, we we're sat quite near the divide between the fans and there was a fair bit of arguing between blunts fans about sitting/standing. It would be nice if all 27,000 people stood and sung from the first minute to the last, but it would never happen, it's not worth getting upset about because it will never change.
All it takes is a little consideration and knowing the value of the noisy minority. The more you hear about Crystal Palace the more respect you have to give to them. Designated standing and sitting areas, what an amazing solution. Until of course, you get safe standing introduced.
To be fair it was quite decent in 111, directly behind the goal. A good group around us who passionately supported the team with no animosity to those who did or didn't join in. I do agree that we need designated standing and seated areas though.
Well 107 and the blocks along either side seemed to be standers at the back and sitters at the front. Couple sat next to me never moved, and I made the lady jump with one of my "COME ON ULL"'s but she just smiled at me. We pretty much all stop up (apart from that couple) when we scored or came close, real mix of young, old and Fanatics. No aggro at all.
I swapped seats to seat and the end of the row to keep my injured leg straight and the women I swapped with complained when all the guys who she would let "**** her silly" walked passed
The passive active ticket system DMD suggested is a great idea, should be simple for the club to put in place.
I was in Block 21, but didn't notice anything. Me and my mate stood because we where in a area where it wouldn't affect other people.
If true, you should have took a picture of the **** with your phone and put it up on here. Then drag him over the seats and kick the crap out of him. ****er
Swung back at him but I had my back to him. If he just said to me do you mind sitting down I wouldn't of been bothered but for him to just punch me is idiotic!
Speaking to a blades fan after the match and he said the same **** was going on where he was sat, with Blades fans fighting amongst themselves in the ground due to splits over people singing / not singing so it's not just us, either way it is ****ing pathetic though
Happened up to our left in the top tier. Must have been 2000 blunts chanting '****ers' a the trouble makers. http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=463&fid=221&sty=2&act=1&mid=2111300724
could hardly hear 19:04 where we were. Very unthoughtful of the opposition to score right before it started.
