The clubs sold 26500, that doesn't presumably include the people who got tickets outside of the club.
Could have had it at Old Trafford or St James Park and cut the travelling for fans then. FA Cup Semi-Finals at neutral grounds around the country sounds like a great idea, someone should suggest it to the FA for future years. They did away with student discount years ago. It's now an 18-21 or something (16-22?, what ever it is it's age related instead) and even if I don't look the 30 that I am, I'm not going to pass for U21. Although amusingly I will be at least 31 before I have to stop using my 16-25 railcard because I just extended it for another year (as a "mature" student) I sort of agree with the change, it's too easy to pretend you're a student when you're not, where as your age they can prove one way or another by getting you to bring in ID (or your DOB is on file when you're renewing). Plus if you don't go to uni it acts as a step between (your parents) paying kids prices and suddenly having to pay full price, so there's less chance of fans quitting at that point. And it falls inline with minimum wage, which I've always said is ridiculous allowing companies to pay 20 year olds less than 22 year olds for any job. Fair enough if it's a driving job or something where there's limitations on what they can do, but for everything else an adult is an adult, you don't get any of your bills for less just because you're younger. (I'm talking about people with equal experience, if you think an employee is worth more than another because of their experience then you shouldn't be paying them minimum wage in the first place).
I got a student discount at Southend and I'm 55. And shall be using my 18-25 railcard to get to Wembley. But I do look very young ;0)
Just to demonstrate the interest in the Cup in Hull, my location on twitter was set to Edinburgh and I noticed how dominated by football the top trending things were. Thouht I'd switch it to Hull... ...oh dear.
atleast rangers keeper is trending in hull after his calamity in their semi final.. but it's pretty poor ain't it
If you have a student card you can use that and pay concession prices at places such as wembley. But you are right, the KC uses 16-22. Have you thought of asking of you can pay that price with a student card?
Will there be many neutral attendance at an Fa Cup semi final then ? Presumably the attendance could be 80k with the clubs selling 60k or something
To be fair it's easy to lose track counting figures as high as that using your fingers. Honest mistake I'd say.
Only 15,000? Wigan's population is 90,000. If we had the same proportion of the population going we would have sold 44,000 tickets. And trains are worse for them. Their last train is half an hour later than ours but their kick off time is an hour later.
There are less than 40 miles difference between Sheffield and London and Sheffield and Newcastle. I am sure Sheffield fanswould rather travel that small difference and have the extra tickets you get at Wembley. 33,000 for Wembley about 23,000 if it was at St James Park. As for playing semi finals round the country, I take it you haven't read the dozens of mentions on here and in numerous newspaper articles that the semi-finals are contracted to Wembley for decades to come as part of the deal to fund the rebuilding of the stadium?
I know there were a lot of empty seats on view, but I still thought there were more than 15,000 of them there. Bodes well for tomorrow; if that's what 15,000 looks like then our near-30,000 won't look as bad as I thought.
