You have clearly fallen for the pathetic efforts of the Portsmouth Evening News to hold the interests of a fast declining fan base. The dodgy Russians have NOT said that 5 million pounds in available to the manager, rather Jim Smith (Oxford) has said that, with this amount, your manager could mount a challenge. You no hopers cling to any little scrap to keep you going. And do not be surprised if the dodgy Russians are talking to Tesco before too long
Now I've finished laughing. No sorry Start again. Now I've finished laughing, I thought I'd give a serious thought to what was asked. Bearing in mind we (unlike Pompey) have a team, our Chairman is 'careful', and NA wants 2-3 quality players, I reckon we're looking to spend up to 3 million. Remember it's not just buying them, it's paying them afterwards (a concept lost on Pompey!).
SB3........ Mate there is some serious questions asked just now about your post.........Now how about some serious answers for a change?
Hi Ted I think we will be fine once we get some loan and free signings in from our Premier League friends, to bolster the squad, the sooner the better so the new first team has a chance to gel. I think £5mn as a kitty for new players is more than most Pompey fans seriously expected to be put forward in order to chase a promotion spot. So it looks a lot better now on the blue side of Hampshire. How much will Red Nige be given to spend, or has the good Fraulein lost her cheque book?
Have to admit to beginning to wonder although to be fair it is early days. Announcements like yours is not the way to do business though. As soon as it gets around that you have that money to spend each player you try and buy goes up half a million as soon as its known who the enquirer is. Which is one reason we did not do more business in the January Window. Prices went up simply based on the speculation we had sold AOC for 12 million. Everyone wanted a piece of it.
To be fair it is early days , does make you wonder though! At least you have more than 8 players, although our new owners are making statements of intent, which is a good sign, although it needs to be converted into actual playing staff of decent quality and numbers to provide some sort of strength and depth in the squad.
Getting enough to make a team is one thing but you may well struggle to build a squad of enough size to cover injuries and suspensions. We on the other hand just need a tweak here and there.
Poor old Pompey are like the village tart, along comes a man promising to buy her new and expensive things, but once he has had his way with her and has seen her smelly and decaying parts he's off and never to be seen again. But there she stays witing for the next guy with empty promisses
If we were to get even close to promotion during the period of our CVA it will be way beyond my expectations [don't forget Saints made a detour into League One when they were in our position!]. If the figure of £5M is genuine it will take us a ginormous step toward, not only maintaining our Championship status for the forseeable future, but to putting us in the comfort zone of mid table, or top 10 if I was to be optimistic.
In your position (second season out of the Premiership), we made the play offs. You seem to think that end of the CVA will be the end of your problems. How will you compete with gates of 15,000 (bearing in mind the new finacial rules), with Gaydamak still owning the surrounding land and infrastructure from the 1950's.Once the parachute money runs out, you'll be no different than the Preston's of this world.
Duckfiddler- so you think it a coincidence that SG and the new owners are of the same Nationality then?
I would think that it is likely the delay by the Ruskies in taking over was partly induced by them trying top sort out the surrounding land problem.
we were never in your position. we went into admin in the championship, you went into admin in the premiership.
'Pompey have £5m to spend'! Wow! Just goes to prove that anyone can make up bullsh!t these days. Guys, SAINTS HAVE HAD A £3M BID FOR MESSI ACCEPTED!!
