'' United can't sign top players''

Discussion in 'Manchester United' started by Matth_2014, Apr 10, 2014.

  1. As the poster pointed out though, last summer you were rumoured to be after Baines, Fabregas, Thiago, Bale, Coentrao and Ander Herrera before he signed Felliani for more than the release clause. Rumours are one thing, actual deals are another.

On him - We agreed a loan deal for him, Real Madrid pulled the plug because they couldn't find a replacement for him.

And as I pointed out, our newly appointed CEO ****ed up.

Both he and Moyes were brand new to the job, that is no longer the case. I am assuming (hopeful) they'll do a better job of it this time.

  4. that bit was my point, its all based on assumptions. Yes, they were both new but that doesn't mean he will be any better come this summer. In reality, he probably will be better, plus Moyes has had time with the squad so he will have a better idea of what he wants too.

I think it means they HAVE to be better. At a club like United the farce last season was unacceptable.

They both have to either do a better job this window or lose there job. Simple.

With that in mind I certainly think it will be better in the summer.

    In a nutshell.

  7. So do both you guys expect Moyes to still be in post come next season then?

Also, if dealings do go a similar way to last summer, do you expect to see Woodward sacked? (expect, not want. Or in other words, do you you think he will get the boot)

I think Moyes will still be in the job.

I think if we had another summer like last year then Woodward would be sacked with Moyes following not long after.

I dont think he will be in a job come the first game.

I believe his contract will have a Champions League clause and now we have been eliminated and wont qualify he will be removed from his position.

Theres no chance on earth Moyes doesnt have performance clauses in his contract.

Once we are mathematically unable to get 4th the clause will be activated. Which should be this weekend.

I don't agree to be honest. I think he'll start next season.

By Christmas if we're floundering that will be him done for.

    I agree with this.

I think he will be given this transfer window to try and get the players he wants. Then judge him after that <ok>

Nobody knows for certain what a player will decide and why.

Lets assume we're talking about a top footballer - one who is regarded as capable of playing for any of the top 2/3 teams in any league in the world for example. The assumption is that such a player would rather pick a club offering CL footy rather than one who isn't. But is that really a fact? Would such a player really choose Olympiakos over United just bcos Olympiakos offer CL football? I doubt it, so we have to narrow it down further to assume the club needs to be from one of the top leagues in Europe (and possibly considered capable of winning it) - Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG, City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus, Inter and possibly Porto. Which leads me to my next point. There are only so many players these few clubs can buy. When City weren't in the CL, they bought some top players and it wasn't just bcos of money (although that was necessary) it was ALSO bcos these other top clubs weren't in for them - they didn't need/want them. The point I'm making is that everyone seems to assume every top player United go for, other CL clubs will automatically be in for them. I don't believe that will be the case.

AND lets take this further, even IF United were in the CL, if we were competing for a player against Real Madrid, Barcelona and probably Juventus, we wouldn't get a look in anyway <laugh> So really we're talking about 6 clubs and how many players can they buy or even offer first team regular football?

I also said this on another thread, United were Champions and with CL footy still couldn't get Ronaldhino who went to Barcelona who had just finished 7th iirc in La Liga without CL football. **** happens.

Madness to give him a tonne of money. Wasnt he meant to be the man who brought stability and kept costs down guy? Works well on a budget etc etc..

Not the guy we needed to give 200million too.
