You should've watched Valencia v Basel. the former were 3-0 down from the first leg of their quarter-final, they won 5-0 tonight, i thoroughly enjoyed it.
Well you may have but that doesnt stop clubs devaluing it With next years prize im sure that will change though!
I've always thought it would make more sense to have one big tournament rather than one big one and one less prestigious one. Invite more clubs in too... Even better- a pan-European FA Cup. Start regional so you don't have Burton having to fund a trip all the way to Eastern Europe to play Red Star Bumphuck to be watched by 10 people... but British Isles could be one region... Iberia another, etc... once you get to the last 128 teams in Europe start making it more International.
Interestingly enough the Europa suddenly became bigger and better than the champions league. Not all of them are champions ffs but at least the clubs in the Europa are European.
I've always like the Europa personally, and fans that don't want their team to qualify surprise me. Yeah I get the fact it's not the best, but it's still a tournament that is well worth winning imo. I'm glad the winner now gets a CL spot as hopefully more teams/managers/fans will take it seriously. Winning it is no easy feat either. SAF never managed it
EL is **** until you get to the semis then it's worth winning. Now with added CL spot, only a ****tard would not want to be in it if they are not in the CL besides this is your second recent spell in the EL, should be getting used to it by now
I assume that's including the cup-winners cup right? Bit of a false stat, as if you won the FA Cup and the league, you wouldn't go into the CWC. It's just like the Chelsea being holders of both European cups, it hadn't been done before because the holders of the CL never dropped out in the group stages before.
EL is ****. It only becomes mildly interesting at the last 16 stage. They should make it back into a straight knockout and do away with the pointless group stages.
Amazing how some of you lot think its a decent tournament. When we won it, it wasn't worth winning. .
Its like the league cup. Not important but if you get to the final its a nice trophy to sell on at Cash Convertors
Exactly. It's like saying Preston are the only club in the 'elite' to have won all four tiers of English football. Or Arsenal claiming their unbeaten season is better than Chelsea and Utd winning the league with more points. All largely pointless stats in the end, just a way for some fans to try and big up their own clubs' underachievements. I wonder if Bayern point first to their five CL trophies, or to the CWC and UC trophies they probably use as doorstops Still, Europa League is definitely better than no European football in my opinion.
I like the league cup personally. Its a big part of our footballing heritage and was always part of the domestic treble. But, like the FACup, it has been devalued by the lure of cash. Pity really.
No one honest enough to say the Europa league was designed for non achievers? Even if you win it, it has all the charisma of the Johnstone Paint Trophy. would prefer United to not qualify, and keep Thursday nights for Emmerdale
That only really applies if a club hasn't won all European trophies because they never got the chance to compete in them due to their success. I.e. if every time United won the fa cup they also won the league thus entering the European cup over the CWC. However United I assume have played in the Europa league / Uefa cup a few times and have failed to win it, unlike the aforementioned sides. Don't try to dismiss something just cos you haven't done it! And Chelsea won the league with the most points, no reason to mention United
With Rooney and RVP out we may not make it at all, can see us getting 10 points from the last 5 so we will see.
