A very good signing I think. Was very impressed with him the times I have seen him play and I'm surprised Swindon let us have him given his goalscoring record and their relegation last season. I'd be interested to know the terms of the loan. If he's banging in the goals for us, would Swindon be able to recall him or is he ours for the season no matter what?
I agree very good signing I think its down to money that Swindon let us have him if he played more games for them Torquay would be after a good wedge
Not sure about the reasons for Swindon letting him go. You get varying opinions when reading the Swindon message boards. Some say he didn't impress last year and isn't in Di Canio's plans, whilst others are disappointed he is off and leaving them with virtually no strikers! Who knows what really is the case. All i care about is that the lad forms a good partnership with Ruth up front and bangs in plenty of goals! Best of luck to him!
re: the reason he was let go, I reckon Swindon had to cut down the wage bill, so they've had to let him, as well as others go. However, because Wycombe probably couldn't pay for the transfer, they've loaned him instead is what I reckon
sounds promising! I saw him play ages ago and he certainly is a handful. The only slight concern I have is that 2 of players who's contributions may well prove crucial in any success in LG1 this season are only with us on loan. I trust Waddock but just a little concerned that, should Donnelly and Benyon be bangin em in come Oct, their stock will rise, we wont be able to afford them and, particularly in Benyon's case, the parent club recalling.
The same could be said for our one year permanent contract players DB. Re Donnelly & Benyon, hopefully we have first call in any game.
I dont mind one year deals too much Ron - rather that than having Duberry and Sutton-esque players on 4 year deals. Long contracts seem to be a thing of the past nowadays, at this level anyway. Season by season you can work with, parent clubs calling their players back whenever they feel like it, you cant. Id be interested to know the terms of the loans and specifically, if we have first call.
Spot on Ron, Donnelly and Benyon are virtually no different to Halls as both are here on year deals effectively. Yes in theory they go back to their parent club at the end of the year but a one year contract player is free to move on so not a massively different situation. I would also assume as with most loans we will not be paying the full wage of these players, it is likely Swansea and Swindon will still be paying a chunk of their wage. I'm pleased with the signing as we now have two decent young strikers who I hope will get some us some goals, though they will need time to gel. I think also with season long deals there is less scope for call backs otherwise it is quite a risk to the team taking them on loan that they could lose someone who was part of a full season's plans suddenly go. Whereas short term loans you know where you stand, you know you will only have them for a short period
I understand what you and Ron are saying Finchy but how do we know? My point was that we dont know what the terms of the loans are. We know for sure that Halls is here for a year and we are told that Donnelly and Benyon are but how can we say for sure that Swindon wont want him back say, at Xmas, if he's scored 12 for us and Swindon are struggling? I really like both these signings and think theyll do well, just dont want to see either of them taken from us mid-season. Halls wont be, he's contracted to us.
good point devon blue if swindon are doing bad and their strikers get injured whats stopping them from recalling their player.i guess we wont know the ins and outs of the deal so we will have to put up with it.
With a full season loan any release clause requiring early termination of that loan can only be activated during the second (January) transfer window. Football League Reg 51 Meaning unless injured or we want to send them back Donnelly and Benyon are ours until at least January
