    Pablo Betancourt:

“Has it been a season to forget? Absolutely yes."

“He hardly ever plays, yet two summers ago the club made an important investment to buy him. Today you cannot say he’s important for Southampton, seeing as he always starts from the bench.”

“Certainly, we are trying to understand which team can make the right offer to Saints. Ramirez played very well in Italy and many Serie A clubs remember him positively.

“It would be a weighty inheritance to replace Kaka, but an honour for Gaston. However, let’s keep our feet on the ground, as there’s nothing concrete yet.

“How could you say no to Milan, who are one of the best clubs in Europe? It would be an important opportunity for him.

“Ramirez was very happy in Serie A and would be content to come back to Italy, but first any club needs to reach an agreement with Southampton.”

He really is a pain in the backside Senor Betancourt, isn't he? One of those agents that I really don't think help the career of their charge.

Actually it could not have been worse timing for Gaston. He is just starting to come good having battled through a period of adaptation and injury problems. Stay and he could become a real star here. Move and it's back to square one.

Sad as the Rodriguez situation is it is also a real opportunity for those squad members wanting to stake a claim.

If it was me I'd sack the agent. He's really not helping (assuming of course the quotes are genuine which we should not take too seriously on the basis of one report).

His agent waived his fees to help get Ramirez to Saints. He's just doing his job.

Well no, not really. The agent is employed to represent the best interests of the player. I think this current situation is purely in the best interests of the agent. So he's not doing his job, he's trying to earn some money for himself.

I felt that in recent games he'd started to look like he might be fitting in in a way he hadn't done before.

More and more I'm just not taking notice of transfer/agent/newspaper gossip. I'll disregard some real news I guess but I'm tired of trying to sieve the truth out, so I'm just going to judge the transfer window by what's announced on the official site.

My guess is that Gaston Ramirez would be very interested in a new contract and a place in the starting XI at Inter.

If he were at Inter in the same position and Saints wanted him, everyone here would be saying how it's in his best interest to go to a team where he can get a chance to play everyday and restart his career and why would he want to stay at Inter unless he has no ambition or is just in it for the money.

Sadly you can understand where his agent is coming from. However it is also true that he has had an extraordinary number of injuries. Which most would agree is why we have not seen the best of him.
It probably would be better for him to back to Italy or somewhere perhaps where the game is less physical.

He is performing better and I am happy to have Gaston as a useful back up, but there is no doubt that, even allowing for his problems which have affected his career here, he does not quite fit our style. I can see that Ramirez might feel that being at Saints has held back his development...he may just suit another team better. However, this matter should be discussed behind closed doors...don't agree with agents sounding off.

I'd be hugely disappointed to see him go now. There's an opportunity here for him to take, and he's recently shown signs he might want to/be able to take it. The guy has been ravaged by injury and hasn't ever had a pre season with the club. It's here for him if he wants to take it.

Yeah, exactly. If I was paying hundreds of thousands to employ an agent I'd want him to be talking me up too. Never hurts to keep your options open and let's be fair, he's not played as much as he'd like.

Surely last season was the one to forget? He's starting to improve, has an opportunity to break into the 1st team. I don't agree with the style thing, he's young enough to adapt and should do so. Is there any reason he can't play like lallana? He has the ability.

I don't think too many fans and i'd include myself would be disappointed if we sold Osvaldo and Ramirez and used that money to be bring in 3 or 4 new players. These two are our most valuable(£££) players out of the 1st team picture.
It's a shame re Gaston because he has produced some real moments of class in his two seasons and the injury problems coupled with Lallana playing unreal and making the CAM role his own has put him on the fringes.

I don't agree with Agents spouting off to the media, but he doesn't say anything out of order.

Perhaps it is in the best interests of Gaston to get him into a club where he's more often than not, in the starting XI?

Two Saints managers have tried to accommodate him, but both either prefer other players to him, or don't trust him to fit into the system (or both).

With J-Rod out, if he doesn't start games for the rest of the season, he has to leave.

Sometimes it's just not a good fit with a player. And for the money we pay Gaston/could get for Gaston it really has to be.

Another factor to consider is that last time the rumors went around, Gaston and his agent seemed to have a good relationship and backing from Cortese, but not so much Pochettino. So with Cortese gone, and MaPo not being a big fan of Ramirez and vice versa perhaps it is better for everyone to go their separate ways.

Whatever his long term plans, he'll want to impress between now and the end of the season. Let's hope he takes the chance to show us all what he can do.

**** agents by the way. All of em.
