1982. The famous coffin was taken to the top of there and ceremonially burnt to mark the emigration of a lifelong City fanatic known to a few of us on here.
Right. I knew the supermarket stand appeared around that time but my problem was that, even though I started watching City in 1976, I couldn't get a clear picture in my mind of what stood there at that time! When I say couldn't get a clear picture, I mean I can't recall if it was all standing or if it had seats behind the terracing like Bunkers.
I'm sure it had the seats. Known as the clock stand if I'm not wrong (and I often am). Wasn't there a walkway from upper west stand to the upper part of the north stand?
They put seats in North Stand when redeveloping the ground building the new South Stand. This meant that for a while only Hillsborough and Goodison had more seats than Boothferry Park. I think that when they extended the roof to cover the whole North Stand it was then the largest are of covered terracing in the league though other grounds soon overtook it. A great shame they put seats in the North Stand as this was when Kop Ends were coming into popularity and an all standing North stand would have been a great Kop. Unfortunately we ended up with seats behind both goals which diluted the atmosphere as those shouting the most were stood underneath a roof which was high above them. One other thing about BP, it was the only ground in the football league where you could stand on all 4 sides when it closed.
The North Stand had seats AND terrace standing in front. I used to go in the North Stand seating when I could persuade my dad (v reluctantly) to take me from late sixties onwards, but also remember standing behind the goal with my cousin when Leeds played a 'home' game against Tottenham at Boothferry Park in either late sixties or early seventies after they were banned from Elland Road (hooliganism?). I think Leeds lost - certainly Chivers scored unless my memory is failing. (And I think - bizarrely - I was wearing my Hull City scarf.)
Don't think so - the North end of the West Stand looked the same as shown in Lammies photo. There was however a metal staircase and walkway that led up to the old social club that was located in the NW corner of the North stand
It was 1-1. Some Spurs fans in Kempton were surprised at the mass celebrations when they scored and the subsequent argy bargy with some Hull Whites inadequates.
Relieved to know this isn't about me being in there for the Arsenal game. (I have a guest so I had to switch my seat)
Was that the day/year that Hull City AFC was actually killed off then ? As for the north stand, happy days in there back in the sixties.
