    Charlton Athletic v Yeovil Town

    Tuesday 5th April 2014
    7:45pm Kick-Off
    Referee: Graham Scott (Oxfordshire)

Every now and again there comes a match (or matches) in a season which have defined Charlton Athletic not only as a Football Club but have also drastically helped shape their History as well… Over the next week the Addicks will be involved in two matches that could most certainly write a new chapter in the History books, whether they could really cement their chances for Championship survival… or whether the Addicks will have to restart once more from League One – I’ve certainly written in previous threads that we’re well and truly in the Business end of the season now yet the battle for survival truly begins this Tuesday night with the visit of Yeovil Town.

There have been many managers across the Football League that possibly deserve the “Manager of the Year” award… People like Steve Bruce and Brendan Rodgers for the jobs done at Hull and Liverpool respectively, then you look at the likes of Russ Wilcox currently guiding S****horpe United back up from League Two… Or do you look at Gary Johnson at Yeovil who is working wonders to keep his Somerset side in the Championship on a budget that is amongst the lowest in League One let alone England’s 2nd Tier, many predicted that Yeovil would be the worst side in this league ever (with a record lowest points tally) yet they’re still there, still fighting, will certainly be coming to the Valley with no fear and even if they should lose tomorrow night then with five matches left… Anything can happen.

Of course that job has been made easier this week after loanee (and top scorer) Ishmael Miller left the club and returned to Nottingham Forest following a row with the Manager yet in terms of reunions you only have to look at Simon Church and Jon Obika who have had spells on loan with the Glovers you also have to look to Goalkeeper Coach; Ben Roberts who has also had a spell down in Somerset. (None of the current crop of Yeovil players have appeared for the Addicks).

    07.12.2013 – Yeovil Town 2-2 Charlton Athletic
In a match that the Addicks should have won comfortably in the end, Yeovil once again proved why they are still within a shout of survival themselves this term with another battling display… Goals from Cameron Stewart and Johnnie Jackson put Charlton 2-0 up before the break but following a disastrous 10-minutes, Yeovil not only pulled the match back to 2-2 (with goals from a Morrison own goal and Ishmael Miller penalty) yet captain, Johnnie Jackson was also sent off and Charlton ultimately were lucky to escape Somerset with a point.

    Head to Head Meetings
The good news (other than Ishmael Miller being unavailable) is that Yeovil have never beaten Charlton in the League, they’ve only managed two draws (both at Yeovil) and their only victory to date was a 1-0 win at the Valley in the Carling Cup back in 2008 (A competition everyone beats us in)

    Yeovil Town… the Stats
On the road this season, Yeovil Town have picked up one more point (18) than they have at home with an equal number of victories (4) whilst drawing six times and losing on ten occasions, they’ve scored a total of 23-goals on the road whilst conceding 38 times (Marek Stech has kept three clean sheets)

On to score-lines and their biggest defeat was 5-1 up at Huddersfield Town whilst their biggest win to date (on the road of course) was over Watford in November… Their goals had mainly been coming from Ishmael Miller (7) whilst James Hayter is on 5-goals with Byron Webster (at 6.4ft) has three goals… The Addicks will need to be on their guard in the 15-minutes prior to Half-Time (and Full-Time) with 23% of goals for Yeovil usually come in their period with just 10% coming in the 15-minute period after Half-Time.

    Charlton Team News
Once again as suspected Yohann Thuram failed to make the bench against Reading following his refusal to travel to Leeds so Dillon Phillips should deputise in that position tomorrow night… With Reza Ghoochanneijad rested following his goal against Leeds you have to question if Jose Riga was resting players with tomorrow’s clash coming up or whether he prefers to rotate players

One interesting sign is the fact that Davide Petrucci played in this afternoon’s U21 match against Bristol City so there must be a question mark on whether he’ll be involved following a lacklustre cameo against Reading.

Possible Side to face Yeovil Town
    Hamer
    Wilson – Morrison – Dervite – Wiggins
    Cousins – Poyet
    Ghoochanneijad – Ajdarevic – Jackson
    Obika

    Substitutes Bench
    Phillips – Fox – Wood – Pritchard – Harriott – Sordell – Church

    A4L’s Prediction: 2-0 (Obika, Ghoochanneijad)

This game is going to come down to who wants it more, cliche I know, but that's how it is. Both lack quality so it's going to be a real fight - and what worries me is I fully expect Yeovil to be able to do just that... where as I have question marks over CAFC.

If we get off to a decent start, and settle the nerves, I think we will go on to win. I also reckon in a Valley rarity we will have goals.

    3-1 (Obika, Morrison, Jackson)

Saw that - sounds like it was more than one incident down there. I know they won without him at the weekend, but that will still be a blow to them. It's hard to come across goalscorers as we know(!!!) and they've just lost their top scorer.

I wonder if we will go back in for him during the summer.

For me this is our biggest game since Swindon in the playoffs in 2010. A win would be fantastic, a loss disastrous, I'm sitting on the fence, 1-1.

sorry guys, with the other games tomorrow night we could put a nice buffer between us and the rest. But think Yeovil are more up for it. Really hope I'm wrong... but 0-1 for me.

Really can't see where the next goal will come from. Reza's had his moment of glory, Jacko doesn't get in the box much, I don't see how any of our strikers can do anything being so isolated up front, our only shot Vs Reading came from Wiggins, Cousins has always been a defensive player, oh well!

    3-0 (Church,3)

I can't see us winning this one, 2-0 to Yeovil and our descent into Div 1 continues. With our chronic inability to score a goal there is only one way we are heading and that is to the wastelands of Div1

Fortune favours the brave, and so it will prove tonight. Let's hope that is us.

I'm still feeling rather optimistic. Which means we will probably lose, but for the next 10 hours I'll be running on excitement and adrenaline.

After sleeping on it I believe this game could end up as 0-0 like the Millwall match

Riga knows we cant lose the match / Yeovil certainly cant lose the match so it could end up being a cagey affair with few chances, of course with Barnsley facing Burnley and Millwall at Wigan a draw wouldnt be the end of the world should those two lose

I think someone's been hitting the cider.

I don't see us a vastly superior to Yeovil, but at our ground I want a win, not a draw.

    1-1 (Dervite)
