Targets for next season?

  1. I think we're heading in the right direction to push up the table. I still think we need a 4/5 more signings (2 strikers, a winger and a CB and fullback cover), but i reckon Pardew has made 3 good signings so far, and knows what we need. We still have plenty of time to secure the signatures of many more players, so i'm not going to worry if we have to wait a month or so for another signing.

Anyway, my target for last season was 41 points and around 15th position.

This season, my target is 50 ponits. It may only be 4 points higher that what we got last season, but i think last season the PL was extremely poor, and i reckon teams will be stronger or weaker next season, and it most likely will not be so tight. I don't think 50 points will get us 8th place like it would have done last season, but it would be an exceptional total for our 2nd season no doubt, and it would still likely get us a good finishing place.

So my main targets are -

    1. 50 points and/or top ten finish

    2. Good cup run. I'd like us to get to the semi finals atleast. We've ****ed ourselves over in our cup runs over the last two seasons. Losing to Peterbrough 2-0, losing to WBA 4-2, the Arsenal defeat didn't suprise me but i think if we played a full strength team we could have won, the Stevenage defeat was just pathetic. A full strength team vs Stevenage and we lost. Pathetic. This time i'd like more hunger in the cup games, and also to know when it's best to play our best players or our kids. Ofcourse - this target is only if it doesn't mess up our league position.

    3. More home wins. Lets not choke against **** teams like Stoke and Blackburn, and actually use our superior technical ability to outplay them AND score goals this time. I don't want us to crumble against physical sides. We outplayed these two teams in each of the 4 games, even though we only managed 1 point... which takes me too my next point.

    4. BEAT TEAMS THAT WE DOMINATE. I was frustrated only managing draws or having games thrown away because we couldn't score goals, against teams that we outplayed.

    5. Pardew to stay as manager all season - Steady the ship.

Those are my targets. What about yours?

p.s. Ofcourse i want to win the derbies, but i believe we have more important things to achieve first. Whats a win against a small club down the road anyway? ;)

1 Top ten finish is a MUST, or we will have got nowhere.
2 Keep Barton and Jose and seal new contracts for both
3 Sign 2 new strikers - 1 in the Summer and 1 as a great, cheap, Carr buy in Jan.
4 Lose dead wood - Perch, Smith, Xisco etc
5 Use younger player in some matches
6 Get to a Cup Final.
    7 Don't sack Pardew is a MUST
8 Beat 5under1and so we have bragging rights

Cup run would be nice but by no means essential

That's all really, slow and steady wins the race

i understand about progression and beating the lesser teams but i would like us to upset the big boys again this season arsenal, liverpool, the draw against utd and chelsea, league cup win v chelsea etc whilst like you said be more clinical against the lesser teams at home.

Top 10 finish and proof that we aspire to play European football within the next few seasons.

A good cup run, start off by using younger players but then field a stronger team based upon progression.

Faith in Pardew from both the fans and the board.

Try to decrease absences due to injury and suspensions, this is an area where we have really struggled in the past.

Beat the likes of Stoke, Fulham, Blackburn, West Brom, Bolton, Wigan, Villa, Swansea, Norwich and QPR at home. As has been said, it's vital to win these games. If we won those ten home games listed that's us on 30 points and a bloody good platform.

At the moment i'd take top ten and a good cup run.

Ask again on August 12th when we have a better idea how our squad is looking after another couple of months of transfer dealing and this may change.

    So true.

I don't mind losing to the Arsenals, Citys, Chelseas etc as long as we can beat the teams we should be beating.

  11. Don't get me wrong, i love the amazing moments of beating the bigger teams, and i would love to beat them again, but i want us to win more of the games that we dominate possession and play the better football, not lose to long balls and tall players like Stoke.

    Definately, ^^

would like to see more of Vukcic playing but with our new aquisitions im not sure how much of a look he will get.

Otherwise, top ten finish, exciting football, signs of progress. (maybe some stonking results a la 5-1 too but mainly just the points on the board)

  13. Exactly. Pardew should play some of the younguns if we're in a strong lead or in a cup game.

Cup games for sure. Last year against Stevenage it proved the older ones presumed they were going to win and strolled around the pitch.

Nothing less than the league, if we don't win then i'm gonna go to Tiote's house and blame him (life will not be worth living) <whistle>

I want a serious challenge to get into Europe, on 2 fronts. We should target top 7 (knowing that if we fall short we have still had a great season) and use our squad intelligently in both cups to increase our chances. Also we will need European football in 1 or 2 years to keep the likes of Tiote and Ben Arfa happy.

  19. Well i personally think we're miles away from any of the teams in the top 6, and Everton will take some beating. I can't see Europe this season, and i don't want to get my hopes up too high. Top 10 finish is my target. Any less would be a bit disappointing to be honest, but i'd happily finish just outside the top 10 if it meant we'd get European qualification via a cup win.

Good football, none of this hoofball malarky. I want us to keep the ball on the deck and play football.

I want us to stop conceding last minute goals!

I want us to have a go at the likes of Man U and Arsenal away. Get at them, run at them.

I want us to make a final, a trip to Wembley would be unreal.

I want us (the fans) to get behind the players like we always do...all ends of the ground this time!

    That is what I want

(not targets I know, I went a little off track)
