I know he is no longer our player but he is still one of us and I fear for him. I am in the right to sell him camp, just think we can replace him and 20 mil was far to good to turn down, but I still want the lad to do well. We cant hide the fact that he had a terrible end to his Sunderland career but because he was a local lad made good a lot of criticism was kept of him on match days. In a few weeks time he will start his Liverpool career but no longer is he the local lad made good, he is now the new 20 mil wonder kid and the Liverpool fans will be looking for 20 mil performances. His under 21 form does not exactly set the world alight and you get the feeling that many Liverpool fans are not that convinced about him so a good start is important, Iâm just not sure he can provide it. His derby performances, or lack of, suggest he may be lacking when the pressure is on, his England form would back this up, can he rise to the challenge? He could very quickly go from the next English hope, local lad made good, promising midfielder to a 20 mil flop, I would hate to see that. I hope Liverpool use him sparingly and give him every chance to slowly bed in and I hope that apart from their opening game he does indeed come good, just got that fear at the back of my mind.
I agree with all of what you've said, Syd and hope one day he may to return to us as a seasoned pro and credit to himself and his family.
Chaps, I read in a local Irish paper yesterday that we shouldn't believe all this £20m nonsense as they heard (allegedly on good authority) that it was £13m with add ons if he won a back full of trophies none of which came near £20m! Suddenly it dosn't sound like a great deal does it.
with respect one local Irish newspaper v Sky/BBC/ITV/LOCAL NEWS/NATIONAL NEWS/UNCLE TOM and all, 19.25 is a good deal.
He has typically churned out mediocre performances - is he worth 12-15 million? - given his age and the ruling about English players, also taking into account the inflated prices for such, we did well to move him along. Having said all this, I wish him success.
Average player sold for over the odds, like Carrol. To be honest, the lads left and personally, we shouldnt be worrying about other teams players, rather, getting our own team together for the next season, I doubt other teams will be as caring about us
I agree with what your saying Syd but if history is anything to go bye, when a player is struggling for form we're the best team to play. He's bound to get a hat-trick first game of the season and then be forever idolised. I watched that U21 match last night and average wasn't the word. 20 million is as already discussed imo fantastic value.
I wish the lad well, and I for one will stand and give the lad a round of applause when he returns to the SoL.
I heard it was a 16m deal. Anyway, as for your concerns on the Liverpool fans dealing with him - I think we're the most tolerant fans in the Premier league when it comes to players playing badly, especially after Lucas. We got on his back for years, saying he was no good and why did Rafa sign him etc... but he continued to improve to the point where he become bearable and then a consistent member of the team and now he's an integral part of our midfield, and he did this throughout the criticism and hating. I think that's taught us to be patient and trust that the player will sort himself out. If Henderson gets off to a bad start I think that's what most of us will do. It will help when he's played in his proper position (RM/RW) unlike Lucas (who was an AM at Gremio now he's DM). Also, don't underestimate the power Kenny has to get the best out of players - we had Maxi score 10 goals this season, when before Christmas we were calling for him to be ejected due to his wasteful crosses. I trust Kenny had a plan when he bought Henderson, and I trust him enough not to criticise until it becomes obvious he's not what we're looking for.
I find it extraordinary that it seems Liverpool may sell Meireles, a cracking player, as a result of signing Jordan. I was hugely impressed with Spearing at the SOL last season, he actually had an influence on the game, and clearly JH will never be a Gerrard, i think we got a stunning fee for a player that may never be more than 'decent'.
I was under the impression that some very imprudent signings over the last 5-to-10 years was the key reason for them falling off the log.
hello mate you have a top player in henderson but i dont think the powers of kenny will improve him much. the lad played his heart out for us and i dont think theres that much to improve on but age
Personally I will not give Henderson a round of applause if he returns in our match versus Liverpool. Although I wish him the best. He wasn't around long enough with us to become a legend and he has vanished at the first glimpse of bright lights. I feel that he has the potential to be an excellent player but hasn't fufilled his true potential yet - as good as he was he did make some basic errors (which will dissapear with more experience) Liverpool were dire before Dalgleish took over - I can't see them winning a glut of trophies any time soon: if thats why Henderson moved. I agree with previous comments that I hope the move doesn't end in tears as Henderson will not be an automatic pick for the starting XI like he was for us.
Lucas is still ****e though! Just not so ****e as he was. Good luck Jordan. Learn from Gerrard son. ( Just not the diving and whinging. )
Jordan (and I know this from the horses mouth) only ever wanted to play for his boyhood heroes at SAFC. He is a die hard mackem born and bred. We allowed his head to be turned by the club and he is now a Liverpool player. I wish him EVERY success and if it doesnt work out, I'd take him back in 12 months no problem For 2m or 3m like? Lol
