I think Gillingham will line up as follows....................... ----------------------------Nelson----------------------------------- Harriman--------Legge-----------------Barrett----------------Martin ----------Hewitt---------Gregory--------------Linganzi-------------- ***an----------------------------------------------------------Weston --------------------------McDonald----------------------------------- Subs: Baxter (GK), Inniss, Hessenthaler, Lee, Dack, Akinfenwa, Birchall I think we will line up with precisely the same team that we named against MK Dons at Stadium MK, The team really did put in a shift that night and MK Dons found Gillingham very frustrating to play against and we limited them to a few pot shots from distance and other then a early effort which Stuart Nelson saved at the second attempt Nelson wasn't really tested between the stick. I know it is a defensive formation and the onus is on the home side to attack when they are playing on there own patch, but if we play 4.4.2 on Saturday with Cody McDonald and Adebayo Akinfenwa up-front Rotherham are just going to tear us apart, Ben Pringle was outstanding that day and Rotherham have also got the likes of Wes Thomas, Lee Frecklington, Alex Revell, Kieran Agard and Kári Arnason in there side and Rotherham have spent big money to assemble the squad they have currently got and you do wonder how long that sort of spending spree can continue ??? Rotherham could of scored eight past us at The New York Stadium, John Mousinho got injured that day and Donervon Daniels showed us why he is not a centre back, I think Alex Revell will find Leon Legge (or Ryan Inniss depending on who starts) more difficult opponents when it comes to winning the ball in the air. I think it is fair to say that we really dis-like Steve Evans and that dis-liking of Steve Evans means that the atmosphere should crank up a few levels in volume, against Crewe it felt like a end of season match with nothing to play for, if we are fired up from the off then hopefully that atmosphere gets the players going and they give us something to shout about. A Repeat of last season's 1 - 0 win would be very nice - COME ON THE GILLS Hope you don't mind me posting a match thread on here, I didn't see one and I wanted to post how I think Gillingham will line up tomorrow.
They`re currently 15 games unbeaten, and sit in the Playoffs just five points off 2nd place. As much as it pains me to say it Steve Evans is doing a great job up there, and we will be in for a very tough game.I`m hoping that we will be fresh and bang up for the game, and don't put in a performance like Sheffield Utd.The win at MK Dons was very good, and takes some pressure off the game, meaning a point would be a good result and its not a must win. The atmosphere should be decent with the Steve Evans factor .
Rotherham is one of the teams i have not seen this season due to other commitments at the time, so certainly looking forward to making my own judgement on them at Priestfield. I'm sure the air will be blue in colour for Evans arrival but at least he's managing in style points wise at least what MA failed. As for team selection, i ain't got a clue with PT or more like what starting eleven he starts would not be my desired selection. I would play Hessy and not Gregory and I would play Lee or Dack and not Weston. If Innis is fit get him on and stick Barrett on the bench. See you all at the game.
What an amazing game. Seven goals, three in the last few minutes, and an incredible comeback by Rotherham make it a rather nervous few weeks for us. A hat-trick for Hitchcock who came on a sub after 60 minutes.
Its times like these that I'm disappointed that profanity is not acceptable on here, or otherwise I would not run out of interesting vocabulary to describe his miss kick!
He does what he wants, Steve Evans, he does what he wants.......what a game, don't be too disappointed we are just flying at the moment, 3rd highest scores in the whole of England, good luck rest of season x x
Don't really begrudge you the win today, we beat you to the title last year so we'll let you have a meaningless little play off spot this year . In all seriousness good luck for the rest of the year and after getting over the shock of those two late goals can now acknowledge that was a good game of football (spectacle not skill!)
Hitchcock's Horror Half Hour! Good job he did not come on earlier. However, this feat was once bettered by James Hayter of AFC Bournemouth against Wrexham who coming on in 84th minute managed 3 goals in 140 seconds!
I said before the game that I would be pleased with a point, but errors and a poor linesman have cost us.We started off in the worst way possible in conceding just after 12 seconds.I was worried how we would start as we played poorly against Sheffield Utd after a long break.Rotherham particularly the first 25 minutes were head and shoulders above us,we couldn`t get near them and they should have had a couple more goals before we equalised.A few minutes before we scored we started to settle. We won a free kick and Dack put the ball in for Bayo to head home quite easily. We went into H/T at 1-1,and I think every Gills fan was pleased we were still in the game.We started the second half the better side, and went 2-1 up on 56 minutes when a long ball from Hewitt found the impressive Weston who finished past their keeper. It was like the old Weston of early last season, and a similar goal to what he scored at Dagenham last season.Rotherham were still a threat and they equalised 10 minutes later when Hitchcock the sub scored and for me their equaliser was offside. Our players were ranting at the linesman and ref,but the ref wasn`t having any of it. To our credit we kept going and Dack put us ahead with just seven minutes left with a great chip over their keeper.I felt at that stage we would atleast get something from the game, but our defending has cost us late in games so many times this season. Two minutes after we went 3-2 up Barrett made a bad error where the ball went through his foot as he was going to pass the ball back to Nelson, and Hitchock then ran onto the ball to equalise for Rotherham. You just knew there would only be one winner, and Barrett again conceded a free kick. The free kick went out for a corner, and Hitchcock then scored the winner in the 90th minute. It was gutting as from the 25th minute we played well and deserved something, but Rotherham were very good and you can see why Rotherham are unbeaten in 16 games. Results have not gone for us today,so we still have a bit to do.We need to defend better and stop making as many mistakes.
