Looking at todays fixtures and also the remaining fixtures for who I consider to be in the clarts, today could be massive for us. For me, I reckon Fulham and Cardiff are doomed and yes, I know this is pretty obvious but that leaves one remaining slot to fill. We now have 4 pretty unwinnable games (on paper) we may scrape the odd point, we may get nothing from an available 12 points leaving is right in the clarts. West Brom and Swansea also have some games where I would expect them to get nothing from, again they may scrape the odd point or two. I honestly can't see either of them breaking away from the pack and we still have both to play at home. Swansea away to Hull today, I would expect Hull to win that one. West Brom away to Norwich, again I am expecting Norwich to win. Next week they both have home games to Chelsea and Spurs, respectively. Can't see either getting anything there at worst I see WB snatching a home point. The week after that Swansea are away to the Scum and WB are at the Etihad, can't see either getting anything there. After that they both have games where they could get something, as do we at home to Cardiff. Swansea entertain Villa at home and WB have West Ham. For me this is where it could all go pear shaped depending on where West Ham are in the table, if safe they may just turn up and make up the numbers or big Sam may go there not to get beat. I would say Villa are pretty much safe so will be making up the numbers and just play the game out. Then Swansea take on Southampton at home, not an easy game and WB are away to the Gunners, can see Swansea getting something but not West Brom. We are away to Man Utd After this is where our fate is in our own hands. We play them both at home starting with West Brom and rounding off with Swansea. As mentioned I don't expect either Swansea or West Brom to have opened up an unbridgeable gap and if we can win those two games, plus a win against Cardiff, I reckon we will have done enough to survive. Forgive me for being the optimist but that's all I have left, if we haven't got hope, what the **** have we got? Being Sunderland, we are just as likely to get a draw against the Spuds on Monday night, maybe even something against Everton, all our hopes will have risen again and we might even start to believe in survival. Only to throw it all away in the last 3 'should win' games.
Mackem Like you I am forever the optimist. I don't usually comment on our fate until it has been decided mathematically. We have 8 games left and probably need at least 12 points. On paper we have 3 winnable home games and have to find another 3 points from the other 5. Given our form at the moment it doesn't look very promising but take a look at who we have beaten this season and how we have played against the better teams. The next two games we may just surprise a few and get 4-6 points then all the doom mongers will probably start to change their thinking and believe the stay up is again possible. Like I said it doesn't look very promising but it is not impossible. So we need to keep the faith remain positive be optimistic and hope.
is this providing other teams dont pull results out of the bag as well because there are posters on here all to willing to write other teams off and have done all season when in the cold light of day its our failings not others.
Of course Stu other teams may pull off results but 3 of our games at home are against rivals for relegation. Win them and I know its a big if but that is 9 of the points then 3 points out of 5 games may well be enough. All I am saying is to those who have already got us doomed it is not over yet by a long chalk. Lets see how the next couple of weeks pan out then we will have a better idea of our future when it comes to the time we meet Cardiff
You are right of course, but I wasn't looking at what has gone, we know we've been ****e and even indifferent all season. Now it is silly season where anything can happen and take a look at Fulham and Cardiff's run in, just my opinion like but I reckon both are down. My point was that this afternoons matches could well seal our fate and I see Swansea and West Brom as our main contenders for the vacant 18th Position. If they both get wins today then I will resign myself to thinking we are down, they both get beat and I will keep the hope going.
It's a long shot mate and as I said, we're just as likely to pick up the odd point in the next 4 games and get our hopes going again, only to blow it against the likes of Cardiff and West Brom. Anything can happen and on paper you would have to agree with the pundits, we look doomed for sure, but it isn't impossible and until it is I will hope.
Aye, the twats didn't read this did they? at least Palace and Hull are both winning and the scum are getting beat as well.
Today's results have no impact on us, we were relegated weeks ago. We have blown chance after chance against the teams around us, simply not good enough, sad but true.
Games in hand against City & West Brom who we never beat, 100% down and the pressure is massively on Monday now again, playing on a Monday is killing us.
