We have had hundreds of midfielders better than Keith jones ... I think all those mentioned were good but better not so sure

So now we are going to go down the road of slagging off his playing achievements

Bog standard full back, IMO. Slower than a milk float on bricks. Got the caps because Sven was distracted by "other matters" and we had a paucity of full backs at that time.

The game is all about opinions Mike <whistle>

Of course we have. But I liked Keith's 100% attitude.

No it's what I think as a fan and am entitled to that view and many other fans I know think the same and are not into all the rivalry. That's just the type of fan I am maybe it doesn't fit into your particular mindset. CP got a draw against them at the Den last season just the same as Riga this one. All wins are good but even better when it's against promotion contenders or from teams where it's less expected.

His point was irrelevant because nobody is denying that Pardew is nothing but a Grade One tosser, big head, and piss poor manager. And what has 6th got to do with anything.

I.A goes to 2 Northern games a season and starts thinking he is a cross between Seamus Heaney & Brian Glanville.

I was at the City Ground in 1989 when we drew 2-2 against a very good side, I recall Steve MacKenzie getting a last minute equaliser <ok>

That's what Powell did, bought the best players in league 1 at the time and the result was a record 101 points for promotion. Most people were really happy about this but you just seem resentful. Whose fault was it the team were relegated to league 1 in the first place.

You were arguing that Powell's success in L1 didn't count ('should be erased from our record books') because he had money to spend. Pardew also had money to spend, and spent it really badly. Powell spent it well, which is one facet of being a good manager.

Do you mean the Arsenal game? In March that year we drew 2-2 at Highbury with a Steve MacKenzie goal, whereas the 2 games at Forest that calendar year ended in defeats (4-0 in May, and 2-0 in September).

Bradley Pritchard has a good 100% attitude ... You really do not like CP at all it's blatantly obvious I was at the 89 game at Forest too .
Stevie Mac why don't we send him back.. And all that .
    Maybe it's CP's popularity you don't like

POTY 3 times, and we had some good players then, too. MY opinion is that he was a fantastic full-back, his positioning was a joy to watch. When he was one-on-one with a winger you knew the winger would not get a cross in.
You remeind me of David Starkey now. He takes it as a challenge to get under the skin of everyone else in a debate, highly entertaining, too.

Should be erased by the record books? So what about the other 4/5 teams who had a bigger budget and spent more than us that summer... and that was money spent on top of the money they'd spent over the last couple of years (like 'udders, Weds and Utd), where as CP started from scratch. No easy feat

And at the time as a new manager as in new to managing, not an experienced one.

Yes, I was so disappointed with Powell taking the club to a record points total and then 9th in the division above, so I stayed away. <ok>

Or maybe there were other reasons??

I apologise to all Charlton fans for living 550 miles away from SE7 and therefore only making it to 7 matches this season. I also wasn't at either Forest or Arsenal match in 1989. I can't see why this would have any relevance to Riga's team's performance at the City Ground last Tuesday. I've given my opinion on the matches I was at. It disagreed with what Vol saw on teletext, so he calls me a plum.

Funny how Ponders and I could discuss (and disagree on) the Forest match without insults.

I know you like watching RTE to get tips from Dunphy. You should try the GAA or rugby coverage. <cheers>

It would appear the forum is still stuck on argument mode. There is a big difference from debate and discussion and going out of your way to get under peoples skin. I have seen so many warnings and so many people speak out against it but it just carries on. Most of us can happily disagree but it is rather clear some prefer to cause drama. So bored of seeing the same s*** on every single thread on here, it has gone beyond a joke now.

Powell is not even in the bloody job anymore yet people are still using him as an argument starter. I await some abuse from one of the usuals but come on now, isn't it time to change the bloody subject?

I quite miss V-a-v's posts when he goes AWOL after a loss under Jose (or previously a win under CP). He must have been at most of the matches Powell played in, so he does know all about Powell's qualities as a defender which earned him POTY 3 times (wouldn't be surprised if he voted for him). So to slag him off as a player he shows himself to be a WUM and clearly a very successful one.

I'm afraid that people (including myself) fail to recognise that VaV is little more than a WUM which is very similar in nature to a skin irritation . If you pick or scratch at it, it will spread and come back stronger ruining your day. A lot of will power is needed to ignore the irritation they bring and not respond to the itch that always needs scratching. Calamine lotion of the nature poured by some on here does not seem to work. Other sites on which this rash have appeared have amputated the affected part in a similar way that we dealt with the dreaded JA knotweed infestation. I am now a firm believer that if you ignore the barbs created by the rash it will lose patience and disappear. I will reduce my scratching to avoid the irritation received.

In fairness, it's a toss-up between Mike T and Vol for who starts the most Powell-related debates, so it's not really one-way traffic in that respect. And if Vol is a WUM, which I very much doubt, then surely ignoring him would be the optimum treatment - as SVC advocates. But I like Vol and his colourful posts, and he is obviously a committed Charlton fan.

Having said all that, I'm still miffed that he imagines me to sound like Trigger from Only Fools, yet I'm willing to (eventually) forget that.
