I know it's supposed to be an improvement, but the redevelopment will always be a reminder that we were never able to move, and a good sign that the club will never move from its stadium.

Even if we were to reach the promised land of the Premier League. Even if we were able to persuade some sheikh to come in and blow billions on our club, we will never be able to do better than Ashton Gate, not without moving outside of Bristol.

Lots of memories for me in those dated videos and I can remember even further back from then. As Ender so rightly says it is a sad reflection on our lack of commitment to progress and the new stadium would have gone a long way towards a new life for the club, but the nimbys wanted something else and were allowed to get their way sadly.

When I look around at all the new facilities built by other clubs it makes me wonder "why not us". Despite the millions ploughed in to the club we are still based at Ashton Gate and a remodelling just doesn't cut it for me being in the older age group of supporters. Perhaps the younger fans can get excited for the rebuild but I wanted to see us move ahead, and my dreams of watching Bristol City play in a new stadium have all but disappeared down the same plug hole as the millions wasted.

Not designed as a criticism or moan but rather my thoughts on where we are, and where I wanted us to be.

    NIMBYS ... !!

Mr L bought a greenfield site on the cheap, spun the wheel and has lost for the moment. It has cost him less than 1% of his piggy bank.

That sort of wealth ... If he wants a new gaff, really wants one, he goes out and gets one.

I think its better than ashton vale and i think by the way its designed atyeo could be flattened and a new stand would fit there nicely, do the club own any of the houses behind it surely buying them up in the future would be of benefit most of them are rented rooms there now anyway if they did that they could take that stand all the way back to the park!

The Atyeo was originally supposed to be bigger but was reduced from 2 tiers to 1 due to light objections from the houses behind. I don't believe the club has since purchased any of them.

I think its very brave of you and noble to put on a positive face, but Ashton Vale was a serious football ground for the Tottenhams and Villas and Etihads, whereas the remodelled AG is lower Championship at best.
However, as I can remember away fans laughing at us before we played in the old First because of our ground, I suppose we should be grateful for small mercies.
After all, Portman Road wasnt a big ground but it brought in 2 Championships among other things

As a design, Micheal Trices lower visual and acoustic connection design for the lower bowl at Ashton Vale would have felt like being in a park it was so open. Fans hated the bus stop design at the open day, so he altered his fluid symmetry [a little tweak]. It would not have rivalled the Tottenhams unless City reached never never land and phase two became a reality.

The Ashton Gate re-development design will put it alongside many championship level grounds. Its facilities are being catered towards the high end in the Williams. Thirty five million is being spent on facilities not capacity. As for the aesthetics we as fans have NOT seen differing perspectives of the design even now. The renders at the open day last June were not the design submitted for planning.
