Mon Mome won a 3 miles 1 furlong chase at Cheltenham before going on to win the GN. He was a stayer. Walkon is not.
Ok, because this is annoying me - Auroras Encore - 3m1f winner as a novice - 2nd in Scottish National Neptune Collonges - Gold Cup horse Ballabriggs - Kim Muir winner Dont Push It - 3m1f winner at Aintree Mon Mome - already mentioned Comply Or Die - Eider winner Silver Birch - Welsh National winner Numbersixvalverde - Irish National winner Hedgehunter - Bobbyjo winner Hardly the profiles of a Walkon right?
The weather at Aintree isn't looking good for Thursday night but seems to be clear for the rest on the weekend... http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2657621 I would imagine that it would mean a little bit of juice will be in the ground, giving us good to soft, maybe not totally soft, so I would be looking for one that gets the trip no matter what you think... Now who shall I pick...???
If walk On wins there's going to be some amount of egg on faces . Just picking up the point about trainers running horses on the owners wishes rather than their own judgement, I don't think there's anything wrong in suggesting it. Of course if Alan King thought that Walk on was so unsuited to the race that to enter him would carry a huge risk of serious injury he wouldn't be running and I hope that all of us, as fans of the sport, would take that as a given. However, every year you hear a trainer say "well we weren't too sure but the owner really wanted this so we're taking our chances". The national's so unique as a race that until you've seen your horse run in it once you probably never quite know whether they are suited to it. Anyway, hope you're keeping well - it was a pleasure to meet you and Mrs Florida at Newmarket in November.
Not to bad Dan, it was nice to meet you and we had a great day out. Had a great Cheltenham with quite a few big priced winners . Looking forward to the next 3 days Be lucky.
Whats the point in posting on a forum if you aren't going to have an opinion!! and it is funny when we get it very wrong (Katchit-gate). I was reading an article the other day about Alan King in the local rag, he was saying that the owner told him Manyriverstocross was a two miler and he should run him over that trip, King disagreed but now states the owner was quite right. That is the joy of racing, everyone has an opinion!
Brookhouse told Pipe and Scud to run Western Warhorse in the Arkle otherwise he wasn't going to run there...some h'cap over farther according to the P/S team. Then again someone "advised" Bolger to run Dawn Approach in the Derby....
I better be on my best behaviour and not mention the 'magic fridge' re this one and the Arkle. Anyway, reading âThe Weekenderâ just now it would appear that Burton Port has already won the GN! Their âflagshipâ (the paperâs word not mine) tipster, trends chap and Billy Wallace all nominate the ex Mr Henderson trained inmate. You could barely turn a page without seeing a tip for the old boy.
Absolutely Nass - the day people don't put their opinions up (especially the more laughable ones) is the day to pull the plug on here.
In a seller wasn't it? amazing how much racing has changed. I mean, could you see a horse like Arkle giving stones awa........
Surely if you are looking at Big Shu and Balthazar King then Any Currency is 2 and 3lbs better off for a short head, arguably going best at Chelters? Not sure who is going to be able to make the ridiculous weight at 9-6. Aiden Coleman is booked onto something and Ian Popham is booked at Chepstow.
