I'd strongly recommend casting your fantasy prejudice aside and watch game of thrones. Its got everything, action, comedy (some pure gold British humour in there, dwarf and his mate are class), thrilling, twisting and completely unpredictable story that's constantly throwing up the unexpected, not to mention the fit girls getting their tits out all the time (khaleesi special mention, wow).

Look through the fantasy shell and inside at the core is probably the best thing on television.

I loved breaking bad but each to their own I suppose. House of Cards is just sublime in the way it's executed and I would say if it was on TV everyone would be raving about it here. Kevin Spacey acting brilliantly is the highlight of the whole thing

I really dont get why nobody raved about Hannibal and I seem to be the only person who thought it peerless in terms of tv drama.

House of Cards is excellent but the original trilogy (House of Cards / To Play the King / The Final Cut) was better (IMO).

Tried to get into Breaking Bad but didn't get past the first couple of episodes. Junior bought the box set on DVD so I am giving it another go as so many people tell me how good it is.

It's Game of Thrones all the way for me as the best thing on TV. I love the books and the TV is almost on a par, cutting out some of the sub-plots and simplifying where needed (combining minor characters, ignoring family members mentioned by name but not critical to the plot) to make it workable. I will be one of the sad folk that watch Series 4 at 2am next Monday when the 1st episode is simulcast in the UK and USA.

I just found Game of Thrones to be not to my tastes. I think the South Park parody covered it perfectly. There are far too many floppy cocks and, as a writer, I'd probably say far too many characters. But apparently Martin solves that by killing most of them off anyway.

Breaking Bad was awesome, Heroes was decent, the new series of that will be interesting!

Alan Partridge, Blackadder and Garth Mahrengis Dark Place are my faves.
    faves.

GOT has way too many dicks for me to enjoy but each to their own ;) Plus everyone watches it and I'm so sick of hearing about it that it's stopped me watching.

American Horror story is brilliant. Worth a watch, best ongoing show.

Breaking bad was good up to season 4 where it was meant to end. Last 2 seasons dragged on and ending was piss poor.

Comedy-wise as I've said before Community is a must watch, as long as you don't have a prejudice against Yankee humour. It's just way too smart to get every reference and joke the first time round. For example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19FMU3M7Jtk&list=PL612F805F6AE8D742

Many decent shows out there, too many to find time to watch I reckon.

Friends spanned a generation and was fresh humour at the time, following shows like seinfeld and everybody loves raymond. Since then almost every show has copied the Friends formula. Maybe you didn't like it but you can't deny its success.

I never denied its success, in the way that I dont deny that Westlife were a success* and programmes like X-Factor will have higher veiwing figures in the UK than any of the shows previously mentioned on this thread. But when did something mass populist ever mean it was good? Unfortunately there's a lot of ****s out there.

*the best selling band in Britain in the 90s, FACT.

Just watched the finale. Barely got through it, it was so boring. Predictable and rushed. Thank God it's over.

Wait. What? There's a new series of Heroes planned? The ending of the last one just SUCKED, which after watching it for so long really stank, but if you tell me there's a new series....omg /happydance

The first season of Heroes was good and clever, it soon turned to utter garbage in season 2, watch a few episodes and forgot about it, was total bollocks. From what I remember the story lines all clashed and conflicted in the end so they just forgot about everything that already happened and pretended it never did.

Essential viewing in the FT house at present are The Blacklist and Hostages teamed with Breaking Bad on Netflix.
