Very happy to admit that I called it wrong on Jose Riga. He is not an RD stooge - proved by the way he has resisted or ignored the claims of Thuram, Nego, Koc & PP. He has demonstrated that he can take tough decisions - look at the way he has completely bombed out Spongebob after "that" miss v Burnley, and the way he assessed Tudgay and quickly terminated his loan.

I also like the way Riga comes across in interviews, the way people within the Club are describing him as a gentleman, and the way he has coached the defence to shut up shop since he took over.

He picked up a team that was collectively on its arse after the Sheff Utd debacle, and the turnaround has been very impressive to say that least.

    Well done that man <applause>

Can't argue with that Vol, he's doing a sterling job at picking up points so far. A few more of those 1-0 Tuesday nights and we'll be alright... provided they include the Barnsley game!

He is doing a great job so far. Love the way the whole squad celebrated at the end last night with JR. Suggests a good rapport is being built there.

Hi, V-a-v! Didn't hear so much from you after saturday, now you've sprung back to life, I'm pleased to see! By the way we've had Cup debacles under every manager, including several under Curbs. I'm very pleased with Riga, too. I trust his judgement on players, and in particular I hope he can help rebuild Pigott's game.

I'm warming to him now. A slow start but he's showing with his demeanour and low key approach he knows what he's doing. No need to shout the odds all over the press or come out with stupid statements.

Yes, I'm liking him more and more, in a manly way I should add.

Not that it matters either way, but has anyone else thought it was planned to play out like this between Roland and Riga ? To appear that he doesn't bend to every word of roland, and get's the support of the fans ? Either way, it's working, i just thought i'd throw that in ;)

No, I think Roland misjudged the standard of the Championship, that's why he shipped in these players who CP and Jose agree aren't good enough..

All very average performance wise though, isn't it... Where's the cosmic football he was going to produce from the same squad.?

Honestly, I think there is an element of truth in there somewhere. But of corse, Riga appears to be someone RD trusts so am not surprised.

Results more important than performances with 8 games remaining, and us in the brown apple sauce.

Under Powell we had bad results and ugly performances.

We have turned up at Nottingham and Leeds with absolutely no fear factor about us, yet the team goes about its job in a professional manner and waits patiently for an opening. There is an abstract beauty about the workmanlike victories we are accruing.

Riga is a low-key dude and our performances are equally low-key, and this has helped us slip under the radar.

Derby and Burnley beat us comfortably, as was expected, but we have bounced back with a clean sheet and single goal victory, so the motivational techniques utilised by Riga must be working a treat.

Agree 100% with Volly's original post. The performances are still not great, but this is not a quality squad, but he has shown graft, got them defending better, and gained a lot of points from not many goals scored. Plus he has'nt dropped the cheap loanees into the squad as we feared, but picks on merit (ie Church). Be interesting to see how the summer pans out, but right now, we can hope for championship football next season, so I'll join the fan club.

That may be true and glad the team won and in the way they are winning and give credit to the new manager Jose Riga in the three wins and two draws so far but to me the appointment smacks of nepotism so I for one will not be agreeing with the intent of this thread.

    Question for the pastry bloke

Will you consider it a failure if Jose Riga does not secure Championship survival?
