Mine was probably the same one as Filey's - Mansfield in 1964/5. We lost 2-1, Waggy scored our goal with a header and one of theirs came when our keeper (think it was Mike Williams that day) kicked the ball out to around half way but the wind took it and blew it right back to the edge of our box where it was snaffled by a Mansfield player who promptly scored. I also think that was the only time I ever went away on a British Rail "football special" - after that it was always by coach while I was still at school.
Grimsby Town about 64/65 ? Lost 1-0. Matt Tees ? Then Scunthorpe Old Show Ground 65/66, won 4-2. York same season won 2-1 ? Then moved further afield to Rotherham in 66/67, Huddersfield Leads Road........... Best away game? Battle of Bramall Lane 70/71 won 2-1. Sheffield Wednesday recently when we won 4-2, Arsenal 2004 won 2-1...............
I went to the Grimsby game and we lost 1-0. Also Scunny , there was no grass on the pitch only sand except for 4 small grass triangles at the corners. Also went to York took the train via Selby and I just remember some guy having a radio and Waterloo sunset playing by the Kinks. Happy days.
Was either the Newcastle or Bolton league cup away game, can't for the life of me remember which one was first???? both around 97/98 time, still remember for both games being so excited to go watch us at a 'big' team with a shiny new stadium, then getting too drunk for a 16/17 year old on the way back and puking my arse out back in Hull
Pretty sure mine was 65/66 season away at Mansfield. Strange my first home game was v Mansfield the same season we won 4-0 or 4-1. My first game was the away game. Both with my dad
Mine could have been the 1965/66 game (not really sure) but it was probably the year before - I think the game was played at Easter of the season before promotion. I 've also just remembered going to a game at Grimsby. We went on the ferry to New Holland and by train to Cleethorpes. It was only a tiny station and was completely overwhelmed by crowds of City supporters who couldn't possibly queue to show their tickets to the one bloke on the gate - everyone just flooded past him and I remember him shouting out in desparation "I know who you are and I'll get you when you come back".
Anfield for the League Cup 2nd Leg in 99/00. (I am not a CTWD committee member if that's the mistake that's been made on twitter ) In my defence, I always had to buy all my football tickets for myself because I went with my mates, and family wise we had **** all money at the time. Still being at school as well that meant paying for it out of my paper round money. At the time my match ticket and a programme was 1 1/2 weeks of my paper round, and that left the other 1/2 a week pay to cover any sweets or anything else I wanted to do that cost money in the two weeks between home games (as well as any midweek games), so away games were out the question. I'm pretty sure I got the Liverpool game ticket as an early birthday present (it was about a week before) because it was a big game. Darlington was my regular for away games when it came to it though. Can't remember which was first but there was the 2-0 with Eyre scoring one of the goals, and the 1-0 where we managed to take the lead with a penalty on the stroke of half-time and still get Beresford sent off before the break.
