Division 1 Dublin 3-14 Mayo 2-17 Result Dubs save themselves with a late late goal.... And missed a further chance to win it. Meath ran out 1-14 to 1-11 over Down, again with late scores to pull away.
Fintan Goold hits the post with the last effort of the match to deny Cork the victory over Tyrone. Tyrone got a late free to level it at 0-20 to 2-14. The goals for Cork came from Kerrigan and Colm O'Neill. Kyle Coney was certainly motm shooting 7 or 8 points for Tyrone and finally looking like the player he was touted to be five or six years back.
Was in Navan for the Meath game on Saturday night. Over fussy ref hampered the flow of the game but too be truthful he seemed to be harder on Meath. down did the possession game and Meath now how to drag everybody behind the ball. In all fairness so do Down. The difference was Down persisted with tippy tippy football trying to get the killer hand pass and at no time when route one. Having seen highlights of Cork v Tyrone we have a long way to go to compete with Tyrone in June
Tyrone gave themselves a hill to climb yet again at Healy Park. Very windy but a lovely day in the North west. 0-7 to 3-4 at ht. Dubs getting some nice scores but have eased off.
Tyrone coming on strong in the second half, as seems to be the way with them of late. Tyrone get a penalty and score it. Looked soft enough to me.... The ref should have given a black card if it was really a foul. Then the dubs get a man sent off shortly after.
Kerry were ****e in the second half and were fortunate not to lose by more. Darren O'Sullivan pulled up badly. Looked like a sore one.
Derry had an experimental side out. Mayo won by 8 in Castlebar. 2-12 to 1-7 Emmett McGuckian scored a cracker of a goal. Semis Cork v Dublin Mayo Vs Derry. Cork rewarded for coming top of the league by having to travel to Dublin to play Dublin. The Dubs rewarded for finishing 4th by getting to play in Dublin......
Its certainly no advantage for Cork and I think the team that finishes top should get an advantage. You will probably smash us anyway with the form some of the Cork forwards are in, Brian Hurley is on fire at the moment.
I picked. Cork Vs Derry final after about week 2. Derry have made it now beating Mayo 2-15 to 1-16 and they did it with 14. Mayo again have a kick where they have to go for goal..... And blaze it over. I've changed my mind now, I think the dubs will do it.
At half time I really could not see that comeback happening. Some naive tactics and defending in the first half from Dublin and Cork really should have won it having been so far ahead.
Was it superior fitness that told, brilliant play or a total capitulation on Cork's part? I said at half time it was all sewn up...how wrong was I!!
What a question..... Pppprrrrr.... All of them things. Cork fell apart because Dublin made them fall apart. Eoghan O'Gara came on mid way through the first half and that was the start of the turnaround. You'd have to be happy for that lad considering all the **** he got a few years back. Dublin were in the way back, got a fortunate enough goal and that was the end of it really. Once Dublin took over in midfield, that was the end if it. Aidan Walsh came on and it looked like he had never seen a football before. The supply was cut off to Hurley who looked utterly unplayable at times. Cluxton wasn't at the races at all. Alan Brogan was great throughout. MDMA got motm. I'm not sure I would have given it to him. The fitness was something else. They could have gone on for another half hour easy. They'll take some stopping. It's maybe good that we got a bit of a chasing at this time of year. We know what we have to do now. I suspect we won't be able to fix it well enough for this year, but some of the raw materials look good. Just the Dublin panel is ****ing miles ahead.
Why are Cork not as physically fit then? Cork were back training before them collectively too. By the way I don't think Dublin played brilliant by any stretch.
I dunno, maybe it isn't the length of time training, rather the quality of it. What Kerrigan was doing in the first half was to come deep and feed runners or forwards coming out.there were the or 4 Dubs doing that job in the second half, so maybe that is why it just looked like they had more running in them as they worked smarter rather than harder. Or perhaps we just blew the load in the first half and got rope-a-doped?
Tipp win division 4 final beating Clare by a point. Imo Clare were the better side for much of the match but were that bit more incisive in front of the sticks. Cavan leading The sheepstealers by a point at ht in the div 3 final. Cavan miss a penno and were well on top. All of a suffer Roscommon get a bit of a freaky goal and it's game on again.
