I was beginning to believe that the “should be ready next week” and “has a new knee injury” stuff about Mitroglou was a smokescreen and the bottom line was quite simply that Felix does not fancy him. However it appears that he has been at a clinic in Italy all of this week having specialist treatment - on that knee.

”In the healing center of Italy, which had entrusted Sebastian Leto is Kostas Mitroglou to overcome his problem knee.”

Hopefully the therapy (apparently surgery is not involved) will work but there will still remain questions over his general fitness. I’d suggest we might as well write him off so far as this season is concerned.

The question for me still remains as to how he passed his medical. They are so thorough that they pick up weaknesses like that, and if he was injured already, then why did we buy him? If it had been August and he hadn't played for a couple of months that would have been annoying - on the last day of January when you're virtually bottom of the league and he is being touted as the guy to score the goals to get you out of trouble it seems insane.

I think you are right, though, C58. Forget this season and see if he's still here when we start next, when maybe he will score barrow loads.

Desperation can make those little doubts seem less of an issue. Believe me, I see it all the time when someone tries to push an acquisition at work. It can be very, very hard to be objective when you are up against the clock and a demanding boss.

This. We were desperate on deadline day and if you remember, West Ham also had a bid accepted for Mitro. I'm sure the thought of one of our relegation rivals stealing a march on us for this multi million striker was unfathomable so the transfer was pushed through. Injury problems with medicals are always iffy also, just think of Long and Huddlestone for Hull, both of whom have suffered with injuries at former clubs but haven't missed a game for their new club...

If Mitro misses the rest of the season, heads will roll for this absolute cock up. Notably, Ali Mac's.

Basically it says that he is in Italy at a specialist unit dealing with knee injuries. Probably missing for the next 15-20 days and he is worried of missing the world cup ....

'Fraid it sums up a season of poor judgement. If you remember Hangeland also trotted off to play for Norway and only made his bad back worse. And one thing I've never understood is why Brede's surgery was delayed so long.

    Hmmm ...

"The uncertainty surrounding Kostas Mitroglou's fitness shows no sign of clearing up, with Felix Magath admitting that Fulham's £12m striker is not ready to play any part in Saturday's crucial home match against Norwich City and that he is not training with the first-team squad.

Magath has taken a hard line with Mitroglou over his conditioning before and, although Fulham's German manager stopped short of criticising the decision to sign him, he has been unimpressed with the Greece international. Mitroglou, who arrived at Fulham from Olympiakos before Magath replaced René Meulensteen, has made only one start and one substitute appearance for his new side and has not featured since 8 March.

"He is here and has his own programme but he is not training with us," Magath said. "We hope next week. You never know – you can't say it is a mistake [to sign him] because it is not easy to build up a team in the winter time."

Magath can say it for obvious reasons but its clear it was a massive mistake signing this fella.

It was only a mistake in terms of that he was injured when we really needed him straight away, unlike lots of flop signings I don't think this guys quality is in question he has scored goals at domestic level, European level and international level. If he stays and scores 30 goals in the championship next year or 20 in the prem will he still be a. Is take? Or what if he's fit for last game of the season and scores in a 1-0 win to keep us up???
