I don't watch anywhere near as much football as I used to and rarely watch MOTD nowadays, tends to only be the bigger games so TBF, I'm not really the best person to pass judgement. Just commenting on what I have seen.
Masrshall has been good Szczesny has also but in trecent games could have done better which is why I went for Mingo.
So most people seem to be basing the midfield/attack on goals scored rather than performances...If it were on performances, Toure the lazy git would be nowhere near it. Fernandinho absolutely would though - great season carrying the useless, lumbering lump ahead of him defensively. Vital to their team. De Gea Coleman, Terry, Mertesacker, Azpilicueta Gerrard Fernandinho Hazard Lallana Suarez Sturridge
My team: -----------------De Gea ---------------------- (MCU) Coleman------Skrtel------Kompany-------Shaw (EVN), (LPL), (MCC), (STN) Lallana-------Toure--------Hazard--------Silva (STN), (MCC), (CHE), (MCC) ------------Aguero-------Suarez-------------- (MCC), (LPL) De Gea was closely run by Mignolet, Marshall and chesney. Picked De Gea because of some outstanding performances which have kept Man Utd respectable this season despite a creaking defence. Mignolet has also had some great performances and has rarely been embarrasing in a match (similar arguments for inclusion can be used for nearly all the keepers mentioned). Chesney was front-runner until recently, but has had a few 'mare games and his form seems to have dipped a little from the start of the season. Marshall has been an outstanding Dark Horse this year, but, for me, De Gea just pips him. Coleman has been superb this year, although I thought Zabaleta has once again been amazing for City. Coleman ... just, I'd say. Skrtel: despite liverpool being somewhat questionable at the back, Skrtel's stat's are up there with the very best in the the league and just edges out Terry and Mertesacker, in my opinion. Despite some faux pas at the back, Skrtel has scored 6 goals! 6! He's a centreback having an immense year, despite his detractors. Might yet add to that tally before the year ends, too. Kompany was a fairly easy choice. He makes premiership defending look easy, like Rio or Jap Staam or Tony Adams in their pomp. Shaw just edges Azil (chelsea) and Baines for me. He's been a revelation this season. Strong, quick, skilled, and still so young. Great potential. Evra also warrants a mention as he's been, with De Gea and Rooney, one of United's best players in this their annus horribilis. Lallana, like Shaw, has had a fantastic year with Southampton and England. Terrific player and talent who deserves to be in the team of the year. Toure was another easy pick. He's been an absolute monster for City this year. Silva: I just couldn't leave him out - his touch and skill is a joy to watch. Ramsey's start to the season would have warranted a place in the team but injury has, unfortunately, put paid to that. Hazard. This season's young player of the year - just beating Shaw, I'd say. I picked Hazard over Steven Gerrard (our captain fantastic!), which shows how well I think he's played this year. (I would have loved a Toure / Gerrard CM pairing, too! ) Suarez picks himself - best player this season by a forest mile! Most goals, most assists, tireless and dogged in defense and attack! Aguero, despite injury (like Ramsey), he's done enough to get into the team at the expense of Daniel Sturridge. He's been City's main driving force in the premiership along with Toure/Silva/Kompany and has been amazing, as his stats suggest. Again, would love to add Daniel to Luis up front, but Aguero has just pipped him for me. My main source of agonizing, during this selection, was leaving out Sturridge, as I've been a massive fan of his this year because he's been simply awesome. However, I'll stick with my final decision.
Easy enough to have the best defence when you have all 10 outfield players behind the ball and play for the draw while trying to nick a goal against any half decent team.
Marshall - Pulled of load of saves and kept Cardiff in it in a lot of games this year. Coleman - probably the bet RB pre-Christmas. Dropped off a bit since then but no other RB has been as consistent Terry - Probably his best season in years. Mertesacker - touch one as he comes as a 2 with Koscielny but the fact he has less red card swings it. Azpilacueta - for a RB to take over from Cole and perform so well at LB is impressive. Toure - 17 goals from midfield pretty much says it all. Gerrard - 11 goals, similar number of assists while playing in a brand new DM role that many said he wasn't good enough to do. Probably his best season for 5 years! Cabaye/Ramsey - odd choice but since Ramsey has been injured Arsenal haven't been the same team and the same can be said for Cabaye. Both had excellent starts to the season. Hazard - been Chelsea's star forward this year proving goals, assists and excitement. Sturridge - 20 goals when playing 2nd fiddle to Suarez, missing 8 games in the middle and then going on an 8 game scoring run. Suarez - don't really think anything needs to be said. POTY - Suarez YPOTY - Shaw
Ok so my view is that controversially de gea might deserve a shout... Why? Anyone having to look at Phil jones deserves it. Now.... I think the guy has it mostly spot on Coleman, shaw, Cahill all fine, front 6 are fine..... Which cb other than that? Could be many.... Pre February it would have been mertesacker
My team would be : --------------- De Gayer------------- Zabaleta-----Skrtel----Terry------Azpilacueta ---------------------Gerrard------------------ Lallana--------------Toure--------Hazard---- ------------------------SAS-------------------- POTY - Suarez (if he doesn't win it the world has gone completely mad) YPOTY - Sterling or Shaw A note on De Gayer - He has probably saved Utd from being in the bottom half of the table, and even possibly in a relegation battle
Hazard is 23 Sterling is 19 one is clearly young and the other is just the average age for a footballer
