I must admit I was instinctively dismayed at Barker's appointment, but got over it immediately when it became apparent that Steve Coppell was coming with him. Despite not warming to him I really wanted him to do well and thought that with SCs advice on tap he would.

But his interviews last night were outrageous and for me now, the sooner he goes the better. We've got what, 7 games left? I just think we need to bring in someone temporarily who will give the players an immediate lift and motivate them to work their guts out on the pitch.

Footballers aren't all the brightest sparks - Steve Claridge said last night that they just look confused about the instructions they've been given. Maybe a simple plan with the right motivation might work......... a bit.

Our defending was great..... WAS! We are now letting them in left right and centre, and really struggle to score goals

Spot on Eastney <ok> Ricardo Rocha would have been ideal for that role.

Woopert that would have been an inspired move....rated that bloke very highly - on and off the pitch. Class and quality....he'd have been first choice with Herman a close second. We can but wonder how that would have worked.

I can't help but think we should have bent over backwards to keep rocha for another year. Could have quite a decent defence by now in butler Webster rocha and Bradley. They all would have learned huge amounts from him.
    My approach would have been
    Rocha
    Ertyl
    Connelly
And the rest of the team would have been young keen players. I think we would be sitting fairly comfy by now with a team of youngster having taken on board the experience from the others.

Inexcusable, RB allowing David Connolly to depart on loan to Oxford Utd.

Despite his age, he was/is sheer quality. To my mind, use him as an attacking midfielder - he can set up, and score goals. Class player. Will be an excellent coach in the future, or even manager.

One cant imagine what he must have done - in hindsight it was stark raving bonkers to have let him go as was said in a previous thread one goal in the month of March *DOH*

Inexcusable and unbelievable isn't it ?!

Just can't see where the goals are coming from, apart from young Jed Wallace perhaps.

I know I am stating what probably is the obvious but I suppose there is no way possible to bring him back?

Apparently Connelly made sure there was no recall clause so he didn't have to come back. He's obviously a bit of a prick having heard the rumours about him and pat and various other spats. However with the right man in charge would it have been allowed to have gone that far?

I reckon he fell out with RB for some unknown reason, so would probably only come back if RB was no longer in charge, but who knows...

I know this might be a bridge too far but if his heart was really with Pompey - need I go further?

If oxford have a written contract that says he can't be recalled And he's scoring important goals they wouldn't let him back even if he wanted too.

    Two things:
1/ DC applied to be in charge when GW was sacked, his application was unsuccessful, he didnt want to remain under Barker unless he was guaranteed a starting place, that was never going to happen and rightly so IMO. No player is to good to be dropped.
2/ DC got off to a good start at Oxford, scoring in his first two games, but since then he has tailed off and has not been used for a while now, only coming on a sub as a time waster.......Ring any bells? <laugh>
