I've been meaning to post this for a while. This chant gets on my nerves. For years we've sang "[Manager's name]'s, black n amber army" but for some reason since Bruce came in the second part of it has gradually been phased out, and now we're left with this camp, Crystal Palace-esque synchronised clapping affair. It's the kind of song other clubs have a drummer banging along to, and we don't want to be one of those clubs. What's worse is that it gathers participation from the West and South stands but only for the clapping part so the weird orchestrated clapping is louder than the chanting part. It's like we're expecting him to start stripping. Was it really that hard to sing the "Black n Amber Army" part?
I reckon the way the 'Steve Bruce' bit is intoned and pronounced satisfies our mesolithic Neanderthal urges. Everyone together now (purse lips and lower the voice) Steve Bruce Steve Bruce right I'm off to drag our lass by the hair into the bedroom.....
I hear it. Problem is it's hard to sing both and easier to sing STEVE BRUCE so most people choose to do that
I think that was always the case, but if the second part is still sang, then it's definitely significantly quieter than it used to be.
Definitely both bits still sung, around us it seems to be different fans singing the two bits as well (individually, not in big blocks, so I'll be singing one part and the person next to me will then sing the next bit, and it swaps like that). The "Steve Bruce" is louder, but I think that's just easier with the long vowel sounds compared to jamming "black and amber army" into the same time, and obviously the clapping is everyone.
I hear it. Problem is it's hard to sing both and easier to sing STEVE BRUCE so most people choose to do that.................................. its hard for hull city fans to put six words together? bout right i guess!!
