Really ? THAT was the 'official' attendance for our game at MK Dons. Now I know that the capacity of the stadium is 30,000 - but - I doubt if there were more than 4000 at the game ( and I'm stretching my imagination by 500-1000 ) Is there any incentive for recording a 'higher' attendance ? It made me comment along the same lines on our last visit to MK Dons - when the attendance was over 11,000 ( the capacity at that time was 22,000). I'm usually a good judge of the attendances and found it surprising (staggering) to read the figure for Tuesday was 6,760. I am aware that some teams count 'absentee' season ticket holders as part of the figures - but there must have been a hell of a lot of them at home ! --- I suppose with the cheap price of their tickets ( teenagers @ £30 for ALL of next season ) - they can afford to not bother when there's 'juicier' games such as the Manchester derby on the box..... which is why I must applaud the other 340 Gills fans for their turn out after the Crewe game.
May look a bit different on Sat when Wolves take 10k to MK. 110 coaches according to some sites?! Dons fans last night said we were the loudest away fans they had heard this season but also the first to sit in the top tier closer to the roof which may have helped. 10k travelling wolves fans in the top tier will make some noise, will probably outnumber the home fans i would have thought too
Ironically for such a nice new(ish) ground it felt really strange inside. Gills fans good as always but no atmosphere whatsoever to be honest though I'm not sure who they will ever get an atmosphere that will really come close to any other football league ground, and no a guy banging a drum doesn't count as an atmosphere.
The story below is totally fictitious and has no basis in fact. A man or group of men with considerable wealth take over a football club, they are quite happy to plough money into this new toy so they can employ the best players and rise quickly through the leagues. Unfortunately the nasty man at the "FA says hang on that's not fair" we must introduce some rules of fair play so that everyone is competing on equal terms, their idea is to limit a clubs playing budget to a percentage of the clubs turnover which is the fairest way to go ( big clubs stay big, small clubs get covered in brown mucky stuff from a great height) Now our man or group of men think what can we do about getting that new player? we've already got the £60000 to buy him but it will fall into the new fair play rules! ok' I have a plan, let's buy 2000 tickets for "imaginary" fans at a cost of £60000 and then use those gate receipts for our new player, that way we haven't broken any rules.
