I would say that anything that raises the profile of the city is a plus however unlikely it seems. There is a big challenge for the people of Hull with the place being in the spotlight for a change, I'm not sure if we can accept a possible influx of visitors coming to see what all the fuss is about in Hull. Making people welcome so that they take away a good view of the area means a change in mindset of those at the sharp end of things like people serving customers and the like, blimey I've had some bad enough experiences in certain establishment in Hull wondering if I should interrupt shop assistants who let you stand there whilst they chat amongst themselves.
The worst experiences I've ever had when it comes to being served by rude ****ers in shops, cafes and bars have nearly all been in places like London and Paris.
Ever been to Rome? In the main tourist areas everybody you meet in shops etc is an ignorant grunting ****head. I wasn't impressed at all. Staff in our hotel - slightly away from the centre - were great but in the tourist areas, ****ing appalling. And it's ****ing filthy.
You talk a lot of sense, why don't you apply for the position of PR/Marketing at City? Oh I forgot you hate the f****r as much as i do
olm the fair will not go to east park, to much money spent on it. Rovers need new road into car park cost about £250000k. Move the fair to the area around craven park rovers get new road. More land available than at walton st. AA will offer to pay for work needed in return for deal on kc.
Apparently opposite the Hull Truck Theatre in Town. The Idea is to dig swimming pool foundations in the space there. Then enclose it behin Modern BUILDING MATERIALS.
I know I have been accused of being positive on another thread, but even I am having a problem putting a positive spin on this - if the BAFTAs had been staged in multiple cities in the past then yes we could certainly bid to stage them in 2017 but as a lot of Hollywood actors only know of London in England (Let's not forget the classic X files episode where they mixed up Hull and Leeds) then to get them across to appear in a city they probably haven't heard of is pushing it - even Liverpool (better known due to The Beatles) didn't get the BAFTAs when it was European City of Culture. What Hull will almost certainly get is The Turner Prize (Ferens Art Gallery - ideal for holding it), the Radio 1 Big Weekend, and maybe if the UK wins Eurovision in 2016 then Hull would be a possible to hold that
The fenced off area they cleared on Ferensway? Is there enough space there? I'd think they'd have to clear that building with the british heart foundation furniture store in too. That wouldn't be a bad thing like. BAFTA's might be a step too far but the good news story in this is the proposal of the 'purpose built venue'. As long as they get it right it'll be a real asset in Hull's regeneration. Ferensway would be a great site for it too. It's got so much potential to be a place to be proud of and it's about time the council took inspiration from the original dreams of making it the norths premier street. Surely it's ideal as a centre for leisure, entertainment, conference facilities and hotels. A place to cater for locals, tourists and visitors. Let's start by flattening the old C&A building. It's hideous and only been gone and made 10 times worse by the bright spark that allowed the giant Poundland signage opposite the cities main transport interchange. It's an embarrassment.
