Ha ha. Players cheat all the time. Even if the simple thing of putting their hand up to claim a throw. I'd even go as far as to say that ALL players cheat. And he is right , a referee can't change a decision based on what a player says. The appealing etc is bad enough as it is, you would just open the floodgates. That said I still don't know why someone watching TV pictures can't have a quick word in the ear.
Due to the cock up Chamberlain got away with it. He deserved his sending off because for all he knew he was stopping a goal. The ball travelled too far a distance for a reaction stop. If he was rightly awarded the card during the game it would have never been rescinded.
It was going wide. It can't be a red because it has to be for denying a goal or clear goal scoring opportunity. Nothing in the rules about a red card because a player thought he was stopping a goal.
Thats an interesting point but I still don't think that it would have been rescinded if Ox had been sent off.
A point that no one has raised is 'what on earth was Chamberlain thinking of'. The most obvious penalty I have ever seen...it's not as if it was injury time in the FA Cup.
Don't know, but, even I did, I bet I wouldn't from several yards away. Refs should carry cans of spray paint and mark the offender in case they get lost in a melee.
